This scene opened my eyes and made me realize the giant didn't accidentally land on Earth. It was purposefully sent to destroy it and him banging his head and developing amnesia was just a happy accident.

He was the only one in the robot army that was in Super mode. He must have been a leader of some kind or a special kind of robot soldier. This scene may have been deleted from the film, but it’s a very good one.

On one hand I’m glad this scene was left out because it spoils the transformation later. But on the other hand, this takes place directly after The line “Guns kill” which adds extra weight later on when he says “I am not a gun”. Either way this was a really cool deleted scene

The ambiguous origins of the Giant are terrifying to think about. What if the aliens that built him were also giant? Did they intend the Giant to be sent to Earth or was it a complete accident? Were the aliens able to monitor the Giant after his head dent was fixed and did they choose not to invade Earth after they saw their unstoppable war machine get blown to pieces? Will they send more Iron Giants?

Its pretty scary to think that only the dent in his head avoided him of becoming a killing machine without soul...

But the question still...why he came alone to earth?
It was a recoon mission?
A mistake?
His creators know where he is?

To dark lore in this movie has a lot of potential

If that dent wasn't on the Giant's head when he landed on Earth. This movie would've ended in less than 10 seconds.

I was watching the movie online & I was so shocked when this scene popped up

Neat detail that the giant is reacting to this dream like a nightmare. At this point in the story he has become something way different than what he was that the thought of him being a weapon is scary

Sucks because this scene explains why Dean isn't surprised at all when the giant shoots lasers at Hogarth as well as why he was so ready to turn against the giant after living with it for so long at this point. It also adds additional weight to the giants choice at the end.

This mysterious past that tells you the bad guys were right about the robot yet he turns it around from a boy's love really twists the emotions.

I love how deleted scene answers the truth of his purpose, and that he’s an alien war machine built to destroy planets

This scene shouldn't have been deleted it explained why the beatnik called him a weapon

Fun terrifying fact. When the giant is seeing Hogarth save him, he has the vision from his battle state with the crosshairs and everything.

In the moments Hogarth was pulling the switch the giant was in full threat detection panic mode and could have accidentally assumed Hogarth was a threat until the pain stopped.

The parts that gave me the most chills were when the camera cut to the Giant’s pov and we see him watching Hogarth turn off the power supply but you can clearly see that he was actually targeting Hogarth in an attempt to kill him
Also the part where the giant sees a bunch of other robotic soldiers that are just destroying everything around them and then he looks at the puddle and sees him in his monstrous form which was honestly a good way to show what we would be getting later in the film

This scene made and STILL makes me want a sequel

It's chilling to see an advanced civilization being obliterated like this. The Giant might have been sent to destroy us, and we would have stood no chance had it not lost its memory.

1:10 That has to be THE most frightening fact about Iron Giant. We saw what he did when he got pissed at the military, but this here showed he is just only ONE of a thousand other 50ft killer robots, equally powerful as him. It's just like the T-101 Terminator!

This gives the scene where Dean protects Hogarth from Giant so much context. After seeing that it puts into question (from Dean's perspective) what Giant is thinking or possibly did before coming to Earth. Which makes his response to the accidental misfire response more understandable.

As mindblowing as this scene would've been to see in the actual movie, I think it's good for it to not be in it.

The fact that we have no idea of Giant's origin and we can only vaguely piece it together through his transformation near the end just makes the mystery about him more interesting.

I guess.. like Superman.

People interpret this as the giant being some sort of invasion force, but I always interpreted it as the Giant being designed as part of a line of superweapons, meant for some sort of mutually assured destruction which ultimately came to pass, leaving him the sole survivor. Because personally I think that sells both the Cold War and Superman themes best
