Boss did that on purpose. No need to even pretend there was feedback involved. I’ve worked for a boss very like this. It’s all a power trip.

That's just a mindf*ck from the boss.

I like to think I'd flip the situation, and go "don't cancel it. We need to talk".

"It's not a big deal. I just had a question that might need some elaboration."

That took me 10 seconds.

I had a boss that did this shit all the time. I would have anxiety for DAYS. Anytime I book an unexpected meeting with a team member, I preface it with "only good things", because I never want them to feel as bad as my old boss made me feel.

An old boss once ruined my entire Christmas.

I'd taken some study leave to prepare for an exam. Before leaving I made sure I was well ahead of any deadlines and prepared copious notes about pretty much anything that could come up during my absence.

I popped in after my exam to join the staff Christmas lunch. She approached me and said she was very disappointed and that we needed to have a serious discussion in the New Year.

I was really concerned. Although we didn't get on particularly well as individuals I'd always worked hard and performed well. I tried to press her for more information but she kept repeating that she would talk to me in January.

I stewed over it all over Christmas. I was terrified that I'd unknowingly done something dreadful.

Sure enough, we met up on the first day back My crime?

I'd left a dirty (but empty) coffee cup on my desk before I went on leave.

For this, the b*tch ruined my Christmas.

File it as a case of "creating a stressful working environment" and document, document, document.

Love the "Need to talk to you after lunch" message right before lunch. Ruins my meal every time.

I've suffered through this a few times and survived. Needless to say, zero respect for those who did it to me. 👊🏻

The power play was the point of it, of course. That boss knew exactly what he was doing.

Legit sounds like he's getting fired for some unknown reason, and then "it's all good"?
No, ya doughnut! It's very much NOT "all good".

I had this in my last job. I’ve had it in every job I’ve been in and after my last job, I decided to never be employed again. I was only at the job for 5 weeks.

I was told I was needed for a meeting. Time and purpose was not disclosed. 2 hours later, it was for a weekend review. Some minor things. All could have been a casual conversation at my desk. In the two hours, my mind went everywhere. I asked for more details the next time before the meeting because of this.

A few weeks later, I started my shift and my manager called me for a meeting. I said I’d come straight up, he told me he wasn’t ready for me. He’d call when he was ready. 5 hours went by. I had worked myself up to a lot of stress. The meeting was for something trivial again. So stressed was I that I was unable to remain professional and I was very angry. I left that day.

Hi, I’d really like to tell you that your content helps me soo much, thanks, I am mildly autistic, a lot of your videos I would honestly just accept the boss answer as to people please, (part of female autism) but I actually quit and was taken back a month later on better terms and I’m a lot happier:) Thankyou x

Had a boss years ago that would message people on a Friday evening
'can you come in the office Monday morning', then ignore the phone.
So I would ring him all Friday night & weekend until he answered the phone.
He stopped doing it after that 😂😂

"Can we have a quick chat" absolutely fills me with dread. I hate it. We all know I can't say no.

I had a former roommate would pull this power trip manipulative bs all the time. "We need to talk" text message while I was at work. No further explanation and leave me to stress out for hours thinking she's angry about something or that I forget to pay a bill. Call as soon as I punch out. "Oh hey, can you pick up milk on your way home?"

So toxic.

It's not inconsiderate - it's very considerate. There's absolutely no way the person didn't know what they were doing.
