Ugh. This desire/fear/misbelief thing has helped me so much to develop my charries, it's almost scary.

This is the trickiest part of character formation! I always write some affirmative thoughts for myself so that when I come back to what I've written later on, I don't feel as if I was high when I wrote it.
If that makes any sense 😂😂

The the best description and you explained it so well. My best example of that is your character desires to be loved, and that fear of losing love becomes so strong, they actually push that person away. They then have to decide whether they are going to follow their fear or their desire.

Hi Abbie! Your videos about fear and misbeliefs have been super helpful! I cannot thank you enough. I have a video request/suggestion: maybe you can do a video breaking down popular mainstream characters and what their fears, desires, and misbeliefs are? Like Harry Potter or Luke Skywalker etc... Thanks again, your channel is a godsend.

The example of being unlovable and finding their love. The fear of being losing that love. These characteristics are exactly who I am.

The way this vid is made just for me, cause the example conflict is ripped directly from my notes I swear 😂❤

the problem is you follow your fear, where you are looking your body follows.

Example of the characters desire and fear worling against each other: Anakin SkyWalker in the prequel trilogy. He loved his mother and Padmé so much, but his fear of losing them is what drove him to the Dark Side. Also his desire to become the moat powerful Jedi, but his fear of the fact that they didn't think him worthy, and his desire to prove himself, also drove him to the Dark Side.

WOW!! Thank-you so much Abbie. You know I've watched all your videos and even I didn't understand this thing but your examples are always so helpful....😊😊

Thank you Abby ! If we continue the first example, the Need would be to correct the Misbelief (if it ends well) and make the character make choices that rely on her trusting her worth even when she isn’t in a success position ?
For the 2nd (if it ends well) need = make choices that doesn’t take into account the lovability of her actions ?

Is this right (fill in the blank)? I want/desire...[desire], but I fear...[fear], because...[misbelief]. And that's because...[root of misbelief].

Very interesting answer based on the question. And may I say that you look beautiful in this short, Abbie. Happy Easter to you and your family and have a wonderful weekend.

Abbie, my characters misbelief is 'to help the society you have to be a saint' so the desire is to become saint and fear is that the society will not accept.
Am I going on the right direction?

Is there a specific place we're meant to submit questions? Because I wanted to ask about the question "how has their fear kept from pursuing their goal up until this point", cause it has had me thoroughly stumped.

Like, I remember Abbie specifically said she changed the nature of the question because she didn't want the answer to be circumstantial, but what if the reason is entirely circumstantial? What if the character would have went after their goal if there weren't actual barriers in their way, like for example a character didn't pursue their goal of getting into that elite high school because they legitimately weren't old enough when that goal cropped up, and they've never had doubts or hesitated about the idea of going to that school? Or am I missing the point entirely when it comes to a character's goals (or just missing the point entirely)? Is it always better that a character begins their story in a static helpless state before overcoming an internal reason for not making their situation better by pursuing that goal? This one has always been the hardest question for me on the questionnaires because I've had to backtrack and try and find a misbelief reason where I'm not sure one applies.

My protagonist's misbelief us the only way of life worth pursuing is spiritual, his fear is he cannot succeed; he has to realize the world is one, find his Home, which is ti see we cannot divide the world, and live the dichotomy. Ahhamoment: realizing and defeating this dichotomy...

So I have a question about something. Im making a series on my YouTube channel and It wasn't originally meant to be a series, but I kept the start the way it was meaning there wasn't really any world building in the beginning. Is it a better idea for me to make a new part that goes back into the past and does the world building now or should I do something else?

What if your character comes to realize that her desire is to feel fear, regarding the stimulus in the story? What if she comes to stop feeling fear from the object of her desire, and then loses her desire?
