8 AMAZING Cordless Drill TIPS!

8 AMAZING Cordless Drill TIPS that you wish you knew earlier. The cordless drill is perhaps the Holy Grail of Household Tools. Compact, versatile and very handy to have. The cordless drill, hacks, tips and tricks you’ll see in this video should make life a life a little easier when it comes to drilling a hole or driving a screw.

Just remember that the cordless drill is a power tool and care must be taken when using one.

My recommendation when buying a cordless drill, if you’re a novice, is go for the mid-priced version. With the cheap cordless drills, you really get what you pay for in terms of longevity and the quality of the drill itself which can be disappointing. The top of the line cordless drills are quite expensive but they are AWESOME! The quality and features on the top models are first class and if your budget allows it, it’s a no brainer.

For most of us however, the mid-priced models will do the trick nicely. For the amount of work you will do with the cordless drill as a novice or weekend warrior, this is all you need. I’ll leave a link below to the drill that l’ve used for years in the copy below. It’s mid-priced and it also has the Hammer function which is really handy for drilling into masonry products like brick and concrete.

I’ll also add a link to a lower priced Cordless Drill that will do the job nicely.
The reason l’ve selected these two, apart from their amazing quality for the price, is that unlike the really cheap cordless drills, both of these have the added Hammer Drill function which once you have, you’ll never want to go back!

Enjoy the video! 👍😁

Great tips. Here’s another … to avoid the slight wood stranding you’re getting on the top of your holes, run the drill in reverse for just a second. Then, drill your hole, and you won’t have the ‘blowout’ on top.

I pretend I’m swapping drill battery’s when I’m reloading my Glock

Not only do we pretend to load a gun, we also give the drill a little "Zing zing" *EVERY TIME* we pick it up.

I've been using nails for drill bits for 30 years. Glad to see others figure it out. One warning, if you drill much, like through 2x4s using framing nails, the nails get REALLY HOT! Burned myself more than once. For longer nails, like framing nails, you don't need to cut the heads off. Just insert the head deep enough and the chuck will close just fine.

working on a bathroom remodel... and i’m stealing “licensed to drill” and will be saying that every time i pick it up ... i’m working by myself so i won’t have to annoy anyone with it 😂😂

All 8 tips:
1.  Permanent marker to mark the hole depth on a drill bit
2. Soap or Wax to lubricate a screw
3. Use two pieces of scrap wood to form a drill guide
4. Rare magnet glued to the cordless drill holds your
screws.
5. Homemade drill press/guide out of wood
6. Use low speed to conserve battery
7. Snip the head of a nail and use it as a drill bit
8. You can peel an apple with a cordless drill

I’ve always used regular soap instead of the wax for lubing screws, works a treat too
Thanks for a great video mate!

The speed selector doesn't change the voltage anymore like really old drills it changes the gear box so you get more torque less speed so you'll use the same amount of watts no matter what speed you're in you will not be saving anything to get your last few holes done

I am into woodworking, my dad was in construction business all his life, sadly I grew up without him in my life Nd he passed away a year ago, so he couldn't get all his experience shared with me, your videos really helping me to better myself in woodworking, thank you so much for sharing

While the pen depth gauge works a treat, I still like using tape for two reasons
1. As you see the shavings being swept, you know you've nearly hit your depth mark.
2. It's sweeping the dust out of the way.
Generally you're only drilling a couple of holes anyway so there's not too much chance of screwing up the tape. Besides, you can always add more tape. If I need a lot of holes at that depth, I just drill through a block of wood and use that as a depth gauge.

As for using wax for screws, yeah you can pretty much use anything. I keep almost used up candles there just for that purpose (and for lubricating draw runners, protecting steel tools). But soap works just as well for driving in screws.

I did a woodworking course when I was a teenager. The course was run by an old joiner who was due to retire. He kept a candle in his toolbox to provide the lubrication needed for driving screws. It makes a massive difference.when driving screws by hand but I imagine that this would really help to conserve battery power when driving lots of screws using battery powered tools.

I love the drill-guide drill-press idea!! The only thing I was hesitant about was hot gluing a wood block to the drill. Instead I made my own modifications adding a 3-inch ABS tube with a cutout mounted to a sled with a couple of small roller bearing wheels. Works great! All made from scrap material too = no cost, only time and fun investment.

My late dad was a clock maker and a tool and die maker. He had a trick where you use the oils from the side of your nose where your outer nostril meets your face to lube screws and machine screws.
Its acually the same oil used to lube clock bushings. There are only 2 natural sources for the none synthetic oil. A species of shark (that I cant remember the name of) and the human nose where the skin on the side of your nostrils meets your face. That little grove.
In any case they don't produce that natural oil anymore. You can only get the synthetic stuff.
