Awesome car! But just some things to consider if you are in the market. ALSO I forgot a bout the wind noise with windows down. It's been to hot in FL to really drive with the windows down..

Rattles and squeaks would be a deal breaker for me. I get that from my dad.
It is definitely more BMW than I initially realized.

I haven't noticed any rattling in mine.
Things I don't like about it:
1) Terrible visibility
2) Kind of small on the inside
3) Terrible wind buffeting with windows down.
4) Hard to get in and out of.
5) Fake vents

Otherwise, I'm enjoying it.

I just can’t see myself buying this over the new C8 Corvette. Corvette has really outdone themselves with that car.

I don't get your last complaint about the price at all. You brush off inflation like it's nothing. Look at an inflation calculator - you're getting great value and the launch version is just an appearance package. You could have gotten a base one with all the exact some performance.

Why would people complaining about an interior of a car you do not even own be something YOU hate? Twice removed and you further complicate it by saying you like it. Again, who cares what others think. You should have titled this " what other people hate about the Supra GR"

The price is actually reasonable if you compare it to other cars today. Also the power has been shown to be very underrated.

New Supra was built in Austria, that's why the price is expensive and Toyota has to pay some money to BMW for using its engine and interior design. They should build it in China to make it cheaper. As we know, Toyota has worked together with Subaru, Yamaha, Daihatsu or others to build its engine in the past.

Remove the badges and the fact that bmw worked on it and it’s actually a sick car. The mk4 Supra was it’s own car you can’t always go backwards in design. I love the car my only gripe with it is that it’s not as big as the ft1 concept. Other than that I’d buy that bmw engine is in the m3 and m4 and those cars are Insaine.

When you consider a loaded Mustang GT and loaded Camaro Z28 have both doubled in price in 20 years, from 98 to 18 going from 25k to 50k, the pricing increase on the Supra isn't bad at all!!

If you use a inflation rate calculator it's priced very close to the original. Which at the time was an expensive car for what you got. Compared to the RX7, 300zx, 3000gt or Talon.

I mean doing inflation 39k in 98 is over 61k in 2019. So it would be a great steal.

The base car we got here in the US is not the actual base supra. The base supra is a 4 cylinder turbo called the SZ and its ~45k if you exchange from jpy to usd. The Mk4 base was the 2JZ-GE with 220hp and this base makes 255. Just some food for thought on your final complaint

I was looking to get one of these possibly by the end of the year. I can live with all the other complaints. But the rattles would be a deal breaker. I look forward to hearing if others are experiencing the same thing. If so, then I most likely would not buy it because rattles are infuriating to me. Thanks for bringing that issue up.

You completely MISSED the base to base comparison between the MKIV and the MKV with all due respect.


The base MKIV was a 220hp naturally aspirated (NO TURBOS) model, vs a 335hp turbo, so the fact there is a 19k price difference means nothing. You are trying to compare apples to oranges.



Other than that, it was a fair review.



I have had zero issues with rattling in mine. I totally understand how you had to add on about the wind noise with the windows down, here in FL. It's HOT a/f this summer here, and who ever rides with the windows down here this time of year if you have working a/c?? I mean really ...



I appreciate the fact you can't feel the speed in the car, it takes some getting used to. It just shows how well engineered the car is. If you really want to feel the speed, put some coil overs on it, lower it, and enjoy it where you have more control over the damper settings!


Another thing: fake vents ... Yes they are for the after market, but the block off's (fake vents) actually make the car more aerodynamic if you aren't modifying the car for track or racing use, so there's that. I haven't pulled either of the doors apart yet, but that vent in the door, I believe has a pass-thru to the rear wheel cage, but I guess from an engineering standpoint it would have to have some kind of duct to get it through the door somehow. I'm sure if I ever disassemble the door, or someone beats me to it, all will be revealed.

Using bimmercode you can mod about anything. I have had zero rattles. My biggest complaint is not having synchronized climate control....overall this car is awesome. The base 1998 was never sold for 40k it was 50k . The new Supra actually spanks the old one in every way.
