My son died in his sleep in April 2020. The stress caused me to have a major rheumatoid flare three months later, and along with it, a disturbing increase in my daily hair loss. I finally had to get a bit of counseling in order to manage the stress, not just of my own loss, but of my grandchildren’s grief. Their mom was just too overcome with her own shock and grief. Little by little, though, the hair loss stopped and my hair is regaining its thickness again. It is frightening what stress can do your hair—and what a delay there is!

I think we can all conclude smoking pretty much damages everything in its path.

My tip for growing my hair super long? Be too afraid to go to a salon during a pandemic. 😂

I stopped bleaching my hair, stopped blow drying, ate more whole foods and began sleeping 8 hours a night.
My hair grew from my shoulders to my hips in 2.5 years and is now 26”.

I notice right before my period, more hair sheds but I believe that is due to hormonal changes, I could be wrong? Always wanting to learn more. Thank you Dr. Dray!

I used to try to stretch out the time between washing my hair as long as I could, because I thought that the excess oil would be good for my already long hair. Soo many people swear by this and if it works for them, awesome, but I developed a chronically itchy, flaky scalp from it. That made me think "omg my scalp must be so dry I should wash it less!". Then I watched one of your videos about dandruff (I think, can't exactly remember) and learned that excess oil could be causing my problems. I've been washing my hair every other day since then and I no longer have any scalp issues. In hindsight it seems so obvious, but with so many people on the internet saying to only wash your hair once a week it was confusing for me at the time. Thanks for clearing things up for me! Love your videos

Dr. Dray, can we PLEASE have merch? I want to let complete strangers know that they should wear sunscreen with my clothing.

I have an ironic story about biotin.

I was taking a biotin supplement about a year ago. I had a lab result that showed hypothyroidism. Mentioned I was taking biotin, but was referred to an endocrinologist anyways just to rule everything out.

Long story short I had papillary thyroid carcinoma, AKA thyroid cancer. Been cancer free 2 months so far :)

I shampoo every night. I mainly do it because I don’t want all the crap that gets in my hair throughout the day and the sweat on my scalp to be on my pillowcase. My hair doesn’t get dry from washing it everyday, it gets dry from straightening it, which I don’t do much anymore.

I stopped dyeing my hair since 2015. I started using hair mask once a week and only washed my hair twice a week. I also invested a silk pillow case and fabric scrunchie. Minimising heat tool use, and getting hair cut every 3 months . It’s been 5 years now, my hair has never been better.

I’ve massaged my scalp daily for the last three months. The hair at my scalp has more volume. Glad because don’t use dry shampoos or root lifters any longer. 🌞

Dr. Dray, Can you do a segment on best ways to repair damaged/problem fingernails from a dermatology perspective? I think aging nails can be an issue for some of us. Keep up the good vids. Thanks.

I love Olaplex. Best hair products I’ve ever used! I choose to keep my hair short, but my hair is healthier than its ever been.

When our lockdown started in South Africa I had an impulsive moment and shaved my hair off... needless to say, I regret it. Right now I’m growing it out but it resembles something that a mouse chewed on. But, I have the opportunity now to start over. New hair, no dying, no styling, no heat and embracing my grey’s and just looking after it as best I can. Thank you for the video! 🌸 This helps a lot and provides valuable information for my new journey and making sure I give it my best shot.

I shampoo my hair every single day too. My hairdresser told me to stop doing that lol. But I feel my hair looks healthiest when I shampoo it every single day with a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner :)

Could you do a video on hair thickening products? There are many products promising thicker, denser hair. Is that even possible?

I'm trying my first bottles of Function of Beauty. I wish they had re-fill packs so I don't have to order a bottle again. I'm going to make them last long because they are pricey.

Thanks so much for including good dietary info! It’s so often overlooked and so important in every aspect of health.
