How-To SR20 Dual Rocker Guides

Made this video about two years ago and forgot about it. Just wanted to help explain how to do the dual rocker arm guides on sr20de or det engines. Sr20's frequently throw rocker arms at high rpm or when hitting the rev limiter. Rocker Arm Stoppers "RAS" came out claiming to fix this issue, when in all reality they make matters worse. Instead of throwing the rocker, the RAS forces the rocker to stay in place, which cause the rocker arm to simply shatter 99% of the time. The Dual Rocker Guide mod has been around for a long time but has never been very well known. This is a proven method to eliminate the rocker arm from popping off at high rpm/rev limiter. The factory flat shims have minute differences in thickness, but the guide shims are all the same exact thickness. The hydraulic lifter will take care of any negligible difference in the guide thickness with no need to re do or "check" the valve lash. This is a very cheap mod as the guides can be found cheap at most junkyards from any sr20 powered nissan... I never did do the video about setting sr20 base timing, maybe some day I will have another chance to do so, apologies.

I have built my sr forged and i let lifters hydraylic. I ve changed valve springs also and now i m thinking of doing this conversion. All i have to do is to buy 16 new guides on oem 3mm size and grind my rocker arms? Will i have clearance issues after doing this ?

Why didnt you change or check clearance on valve after using the keeper shims?  The keepers are all the same, but the flat shims are not.   unless you didnt add that part, incase could be bad for people following this without doing so.

the consult port with nissan data scan will have a base idle setting to lock in timing mode. I do it all the time. to do it the manual way(unplugging tps and stuff) you can't have any codes and every sensor has to be connected. EVEN THE NUETRAL SENSOR ON THE MANUAL TRANS

thanks for the video! how do you set base timing on your SR? I have never had any luck with unplugging the TPS then revving 3 times in an attempt to put the ECU into locked timing mode. Timing still jumps around to correct idle.

I've got a Consult USB cable and some trial software but nothing that will allow me to put the ECU into locked timing mode.

wat size. guides. did u use. I Mic mine it was 3mm so I need to get. the another 3mm guide

Hey there! I went to this vid, thinking that you`d show how to measure and mod the 2nd guide. Just installing them can lead to breaking Rockers. The shims are different sizes to force the arm to be perfectly in shape. Sad :(

rip one out from any 90s nissan. splice it in it's so worth it. you will get the sr running 100%
