How to Choose Concealed Cabinet Hinges / Making A Better Hinge Jig

Today we take a look at how to choose concealed cabinet hinges and we make a hinge jig, or template, to aid in the installation process. This jig didn’t take that long to build and not only did we use free scraps to make it, it should last a long time, saving time and money in the long run. There are links below for all the things we used to get this done!

Very clear and sensible. The templates are clever, and would be very useful if doing a lot of doors. What I most liked was the visual discussion in the beginning where you show how things fit together.

I think its great when video makers don't assume we know stuff that is common knowledge if you're in the trade. We watch youtube because we don't know this stuff. Great video, thanks.

Thank you. I got a mostly-made cabinet. I finished the drawers (never made them from scratch, but this was a chore). Now to hang the doors. Your video is great.

Just saw this - I like the durable version made from the paper template. I also have to give a thumbs-up on your "coffee" mug. I need one of those.

I did just use the Kreg jig for drilling the holes for the Blum hinges. Worked great. I did not use the two little holes to locate the screws to fasten the hinge but rather placed the hinge and used the pilot bits you showed. I do not build anything for a living so the Kreg system is fine.

Good video. Thanks for taking the time to make it. Good information. By the way, I love the mug!!!

Good tips. I use the easy disconnect Blum hinges. One tip you could try is using a straight edge across both hinge bases as you screw it down as that also helps to keep the pivot perfectly aligned. I think I will make some jigs like yours.

Okay very good info thanks, because hinges come is such a variety of styles and quality you could do a weekly video on that by it's self.
And buy hinges from Amazon or China for lower cost some do not come with any INFO, so your setup (jig) could be a good starting point to have.
I was looking for so information on how install a set cheap hinges and found a PDF from Blum that is 110 pages long (Concealed Hinges)
so your help in this area is very much needed.
Thanks for your time that you give to help newer wood workers.

I have plans to make a secretary desk out of a bookcase, with cupboards below that open to sit flush with the bookcase sides, so the desk flap sits on top of the cupboard doors. This video has been really helpful. Thanks!

Thanks for the video. Genuine, straight-forward, emphasis at where it needs to, no BS.

Great content, thank you. I really like the way you put the measurements on the piece of wood in the video.

Love the templates. I will try to make mine out of aluminum possibly since I am a fabricator by trade. (maybe even adjustable..?) I watched another video earlier which was kind of hoaky. Although, one good thing I did take from it was (on the door side) pressing a straight edge against both hinge flanges to square them instead of trying to eye ball them or having to layout the screw holes by hand. Not sure that will make sense when reading...
