In the past I've been quite critical of the quality of Moza's Force Feedback compared to competitor products, but they've just released their new Force Feedback 3.0 Algorithm in Beta form, as well as a price drop on their R12 Direct Drive Wheelbase. So let's check it out to see if this changes the game for MOZA!

Think Fanatec are worried right now, but for other reasons…..

I bought into Moza based on availability and price but have continued to add their components because they're a no-brainer to me now. I trust them and that's a VERY nice feeling to have.

All Moza needs now is to get into a licensing agreement with Sony so Moza can make Playstation compatible wheelbase SKUs. An R3 or R9 Playstation Compatible wheelbase at a slightly more expensive price would be great tbh!

Crazy how years back when the cheaper Direct Drives from Fanatec like the 5nm versions were announced.

It was such a hype. At the same time Fanatec were abit partial on selling and shipping products to the UK at the time due to the Brexit ordeal.

Fast forward to this day, more companies are making their own Direct Drives which ultimately buried Fanatec slowly.

The joys of having multiple companies competing.

Technology will keep going forward.

And if the tech slows down. The competition switches from who has the better technology to who has the better pricing.

For the benefit of the consumer.

I wouldve definetly gone with Moza if i had a chance to start again. I was after a trucking setup anyway and built up something nice with Fanatec and Virpil but Moza has released exactly what i wanted in the first place. Im really impressed with Moza, theyll be getting my business when their ffb joystick releases as they have suppliers in Aus so they save me from extra customs charges, a win for the consumer.

I recently bought the Moza R5 Bundle, and I'm really happy with it. However, I don't fully see the need for a wheel with a screen. I understand that some might want an F1-style wheel, but I never look at my wheel while driving, whether in sims or real life. Personally, I’d prefer a wheel without a screen. It seems more practical to buy a small LCD and place it next to the monitor for RPMs. The built-in gyro is a nice feature, but the constant shaking of the UI while driving makes it difficult to use effectively.

I bought into the Moza ecosystem because of the FSR steering wheel mainly. It’s almost a straight up replica of the FIA Formula 4 steering wheel in my daughter’s race car. Also managed to mod the CRP pedals to exactly replicate both feel/throw and pressure of the F4. Helps to have it next to the rig while modding. Both iRacing and the actual race car use AIM data log which further helped get the actual pressure in the calipers spot on.
Actually picked up a R21 today to swap the old R12v2 with. Haven’t tried the new algorithm yet but very excited to do so.
Biggest downside (maybe really only so far) are the ridiculous oscillations. Can’t even take one hand off the wheel, but then again we have been running the R12 maxed out for F4 simulation. Be interesting to see if the R21 handles it better. Disappointed to hear Moza didn’t deal with this for their major update.

To clarify: Not a big issue in anything else but the F4, but that’s 85% of what we are running.

The only thing fanatec need to worry about is keeping their lights on💡

That laggy gyro display is not my cup of tea.

Great review, Will. I own a R16 base (after a R9 V1) and I must say that it is game changer. I couldn't believe the amount of information that I'm recieving now into my gear. It is just awesome. I few joy to drive now instead of fight with the car. Moza did really well :) Cheers!

I feel tons of detail on my DD in iRacing compared to the other sims I’ve used it on, such as RaceRoom, Rennsport and F123. I don’t get the same immersion in those as i do iRacing. It’s not even comparable honestly. I feel every bump dip crest and curb on my rig.

Will I think you are absolutely right that this is not game changing for customers (for now) but for their brand reputation. Though I don’t like the wheel (whoever does a proper 911 GT3 R replica wheel first can print money), but getting a partnership with Porsche is huge for their brand and my trust in them. In fact I‘m considering switching from Fanatec.

I was thinking of upgrading from my clanky Logitech G29, my intention was a Fanatech club sport base & the Mclaren Wheel & club sport peddles. Now after hearing Fanatec’s woe’s the past year I put my upgrade on hold.
After hearing your thoughts on the Moza update I my go Moza but not for awhile as I spent the money I had put aside for an upgraded sim racing experience on a Mazda MX 5 track ready car and before anyone says that’s ridiculous saying that my slightly broken & being repaired MX5 cost about the same as the mentioned sim gear and boy is it fun!

I would really like to see a video with updated recommended settings for the Moza wheels (especially once this update drops for their other bases) I have an R9 and it is definitely an upgrade from the old T300 but it has been tough to get dialed in just right. I feel like I have had it at "good enough" for a while now. Would love to see what your suggestions would be with this new update!

I bought two Moza wheels, the R16, SR-P pedals, HGP Shifter and the digital screen for 2, 100 AUD

One of the greatest deals I’ve ever made. I am delighted to get even more value out of a product I have already bought. It’s kind of feels like receiving a free new upgraded wheelbase

I love the fact that Moza keep on investing in their software and ecosystem striving to act in the players interest

I recently upgraded to the R9 V2 from the G29, and I love it. I know it's not really a comparison, but still.

It's great when companies keep pushing each other, healthy competition is what's best for the consumer. Let's see where Fanatec goes from here and what other, currently more nieche brands like Asatek and Simagic can bring to the table.

In unrelated news: is a review of the Simlab LC handbrake coming soon? I've seen it a couple of times already and thinking about getting one for rallying.
