Prof. Joseph Conlon: Making Light from the Dark Universe

Показать описание
"This talk is about searches for dark stuff: dark matter and dark radiation. Axions are possible new particles beyond the Standard Model which are good candidates for this dark stuff. Axions turn into photons within magnetic field and this talk will give some examples of this, crossing from string theory to extra dimensions to X-ray astronomy to the power spectra of the magnetic field within galaxy clusters."
Dr Joseph Conlon is a string theorist from Oxford. He was awarded his first degree (in Mathematics) from Reading when he was only 18 years old. He then did Natural Sciences at Cambridge, where he was initially too young to enter the first time he applied to university. He was recently awarded the 2014 Oxford University Student Union 'Outstanding tutor' Award for Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences.
