4 Reasons Windows is Better than macOS (or Why I Still Can't Switch to macOS Fully)

For a long time, I've had a desire to abandon my Windows computer and switch to using Mac fulltime. But every time I've tried, I've always gone back to Windows again. Here are 4 areas where Windows does things better than macOS.

Now, I should mention that these are entirely software usability choices that Apple made, so nothing like, "This OS looks better than the other," or "A Mac costs way more than an equivalent PC." That means if Apple wanted to improve things, they could, but these issues have been around for quite a while, so I guess they don't see them as important.

File Management, Window Management, Fractional Scaling, External Device Compatibility, Keyboard Shortcuts, Remote Desktop abilities, Server integration....

So many things that work better on Windowy than on Mac. I have both at home since 2007 and while I like the Mac for surfing and watching content, Windows gets the job done when you want to be productive. There's a reason why almost every work environment has Windows PCs.

Can't run 32 bit software, games, virtual instrument and effect plugins, doesn't support external GPUs and hardware replacement

You can no longer use USB Game controllers on the Mac since Apple removed 32-bit support.

Interesting. I can't say that any of these have ever bothered me (file copy speed) or I've even ever noticed (mouse acceleration). I don't play games and my monitors are 2K.

I use a Mac and a PC daily and I have to say that yes, there are a lot of differences basically I just see through as I'm deeply invested in both systems. The one overriding difference is the reliability. MacOS just appears to have better control over its resources, with fewer slowdowns and no crashes and freezes.

Same here, The big NONO is "Mouse Acceslaration" Speccially who spend thousand hours on windows Gaming. But what do you think? If future Apple Silicon same like Smartphones? Since its in Lead.

I mistakenly bought the wrong 4K monitor for my M2 Mac mini. Looks like 1080p is way too big and 1440p adds a bit of pixel blurring because its not an integer scale. Hooking to my Windows PC any scale even non integer looks a little better. Don’t even get me started on the whole mouse support which obviously was only ever tested with an Apple mouse. Again, plug any mouse into a Windows PC and it just works.

I can’t get none Apple displays to work correctly and not flicker or occasionally black out for a second. Very annoying.

The file system is a big one for me. I feel windows is more hands on. I've tried Mac a couple of times but always find my way back to windows. That's just me.

I've experienced the same issues as you've mentioned. Especially the fuzzy font in some applications, like a webbrowser, at 1440p just suck. BetterDisplay fixes this error, but it's annyoing to bring in another thrid party application that could break in the future.

Cool video, please just try to not to reflect your mouth smacking sounds to the microphone. I mean like uhm you can be a little far away from the mic and be sure to drink some water before recording your voice. This is because I can hear your mouth smacking sound not only when you start talking but also in the words. It might annoy so many people who have misophonia or someone who watches and listens to this video by headphones. I loved the content and keep it going! I'm not here to criticize your work, I appreciate it so much. I just wanted to suggest something in order to help you create better and more listenable videos. Maybe using a voice-cancellation program might help too, but it definitely won't remove all of the smacking sound.

This is so true. Though i have to use linux based system for work, I am using mac. Every time I use it, I get this frustration.

1. macOS are not Keyboard friendly. Not because the shortcut but the design of OS itself
- In 2013 model and beyond. If your touchpad was broken, some the MacBook couldn't use Keyboard except power button. Or you couldn't enter macOS (and you need connect Apple Mice and Apple Wireless Keyboard) which is more f'ed if your data was inside because some MacBooks with the soldered SSD.
- If you need reinstall your OS, you couldn't just use keyboard only. You need a mouse or Apple Mice.

2. macOS now sucks with compatibilities. Since macOS High Sierra, they removed all 32bit support. This is the problems with old hardware driver and old apps.

In the other hand, Windows 11 removing 32bit version. But... they didn't removed the x86 support in 64bit. The caveats was 16bit apps was not running anymore.


Now I'm already moved from macOS. Yes I sometimes helping people with their macs. But for now I'm fully working in Windows.

I switched to a Macbook in 2013 because Windows trackpads sucked. It wasn't even close. I could use my Macbook Pro easily without a mouse. Also, I could run my Windows only programs on Parallels or Bootcamp. And as an added benifet Apple's retina display, color accuracy, speakers etc. were just awesome compared to the windows laptops I was considering.

Now I'm looking to get a new laptop and am finally considering Windows again ...because I've heard the Dell XPS has a decent trackpad. Also, Windows doesn't run as well on Apple Silicon Macbooks. But Apple Silicon is pretty awesome otherwise and I'll probably get another Macbook.

yeah if you ignore ridiculous windows deep sleep and battery performance windows laptop is ok. Who wants to close the lid and lose 50% of battery until arriving to destination :)
