What do you think the building is for?

It’s an ancient X games half pipe for sweet vert tricks. Whoever did the sickest tricks to honor the scadutree got all the sap that would build up in the basin.

Miyazaki: "It just looked cool".

When I managed to reach it, and discovered it was not a tower but a flat structure, I went "Huh. VERY interesting."
Because of that I think it's a symbolic structure. You can see sap flowing down the Scadutree to the tower's arc in MOST parts of the Land of Shadow. The details are obscure of course, but the visuals are clear.

That and scadutree chalice were really disappointing

It looks like a brace for the Scadutree. Was the tree originally bent and it slowly rose up, is it implying it's healing itself?

I beleive it was the site that lord Godfrey first received the sap of the erdtree and became elden Lord, it would make sense what with the sap basin and the architecture being loosely based on a roman triumph arc

I don't know where, but this is deeply explained, whether in the base game or not. I think you're simply looking in the wrong place, this was a catch-basin just like the ones in the Lands Between.

It was meant to catch the former light, now darkness, born from the tree.

I too am curious as to the purpose of that structure.
I assume if it isn't a collection or directional guide for the sap, it might possibly be a landmark or obelisk of some kind.
Because if it doesn't have a purpose, landmark, function, or otherwise, then why the hell would you build the damn thing?

The shape of it calls to mind the Gate of Divinity.

May I suggest that mayhapst it actually has no real purpose other than looking cool and intimidating as well as being a marvel of stone engineering?

Now we do find a great big basin for the collecting of scadutree blessings. And the giant U shape seems poised below the biggest leak of sap for the purpose of saying, "The lands' (plural) greatest blessing is collected right here."

Consider as well the split shape. Marika and the Golden Order cannibalized and changed many rituals and iconography of the Hornsent. Much like civilizations past subsume the cultures of their conquered over time. So it may very well be a form of imitation of the Divine Gate.

The tower is so tall, that perhaps when it was at its final days of construction, those who worked the very tops of the tower could probably actually see the Gate of Divinity at the top of Enir Ilum. So perhaps it was even mockery. Or perhaps those men too wondered upon that distant gate, unawares as to its nature and consequences as mere mortal men.

Either way, I feel like this structure has only monolithic scenery value. By design too. A proof of mastery over both stone and the world. I don't think it has any other purpose. Whoever built it, I think did it, because they could. And because of what its next to. Nothing more than that.

If you actually read all that, thank you. I hope those perhaps give some things to ponder.

It’s Sauron’s tower for when he wants to visit his boy Messmer.

it's very reminiscent of the Four Belfries towers that teleport you around.

Its a brace for the Shadow Tree, similar to Ephael is the brace of the Haligtree.

I will watch as soon as I leave work! I need lore on this building ASAP!

I'm pretty sure there's so much light on the structure, like literally

It's probably just an asset they made but couldn't find a use for. In the end they just put it somewhere they thought it'd look cool. I think the best lore explanation would be a Triumph Arc of some sort.

It has the shape of the greater will with the hole and all.

Wym? That’s the scadutree tower. It’s purpose is slightly buffing John Elden Rings’s ap and negation.

Scadutree chalice tower. Used to collect scadutree sap.
