This really has been the best channel for tips. No shows, no antics, no 'cheat codes' just good solid golf tips.

Clay needs some type of award for best online golf instructor. I follow what he says and my scores keep dropping. I have only been playing for 5 months. I shot like a 64 out of 35 on the front 9 my first game 5 months ago and last week I shot a 38 on the front 9.

Nice lesson. I think it was Gary Player that said, "putt whenever you can, chip when you can't putt, pitch when you can't chip."

Clay, I am a PGA Class A Instructor in Florida and this is a great lesson to teach the differences in these two techniques. I appreciate the way you break down with simplistic information the action that needs to occur. Few realize the release points of a proper short game shot and by showing them the knee pivot plays a critical role in stopping a "flip" you made a routine lesson go to the next level. Cheers.

Clay i want to thank you for all you videos. I started playing golf May 2019. I started with a game improving set or clubs I purchased about 10 years ago. I did have them extended for my hight. I played twice with them and went to a driving range a few times when my youngest son wanted to try the game. In May 2019 I asked a friend if he would teach me how to play golf. After about 3 weeks on the course I fell in love with the game. I felt silly with that 150$ set i purchased. I went to the pro shop at Tashua Knolls golf course in Trumbull Ct and asked the pro shop and club builder Mike to build me a set of clubs. He built me a set of Callaway Apex irons and a mix of hybrids and drivers. Thay are intermediate clubs. In June that year I was hitting 115. At the end of the season I was hitting 100. I have learned so much from your videos at the end of the season 2019 I couldn't wait to play after the winter. My goal was to hit 90 after the snow melted spring 2020. I ended this season with the best chipping most of the guys I play with and strangers that would fill a foursome when we played. Guess what im trying to say is your videos and how you speak and explain the techniques really helped me. I hope someday I get to see you in person. I tell everyone about your videos. You are the best youtube golf teacher out there. My goal for next year is a consistent 85. Thank you for all the time you spend teaching me how to play. Im 6'6" they call me BigJoe. Thanks again. Stay safe and healthy. Hope someday to play behind you or just on the same course the same day. Peace

Clay, you are my go to golf instructor. I use to hack at it 20+ years ago with no instruction. Horrible! I sliced better than any "as seen on TV" cut through a boot, slice a tomato kitchen knife 2000! Thanks to you I have all but eliminated my slice. I'm learning correct technique and consistency. Played my 1st 18 today and shot 125 legit with penalty strokes. I know that's not good by any means but most all my balls were playable and that's saying a lot! My short game killed me but thanks to this video I know I can improve. Thanks again. You're helping us hackers more than you know.

I'm new to golf and just finished my last in-person lesson with a pro. This video lesson was everything I need to improve my game. Very easy to follow. Excellent instructor.

That was a great lesson from Clay! I was an instructor back in the early ’90’s in Scottsdale, AZ and would like to add something that Clay talked about might be beneficial for beginners or higher handicap golfers in determining which shot to use, is to remember that “chipping is minimum airtime with maximum roll, and pitching is maximum airtime with minimum roll”. Regarding distance, we taught to determine from your ball position that if 1/3 of the distance from your ball to the pin would not get you safely to the green, that would determine you to pitch instead of chip; and if 1/3 of the distance from your ball to the pin would provide enough room to get you safely on the green, you would chip. Once you become a better player, this rule would not necessarily apply as there are so many club selections to get you to the hole based on your ability, creativity, green slope and wind.

I watched this video and applied this on the range for practice. Maybe I was ignorant in the past but for the first time in my life, I feel confident when, and more importantly ‘how’, to chip or pitch. Played a round today and made a huge difference!

Clay, I was always taught that a chip shot, always rolled out more than it flew, and a pitch shot, always flew more than it rolls. I was also taught that I wanted to pace off the distance from the pin, to where I would want to land the ball on the green. Then from there back to where my pitch was. That would decide which club that I would use, and what type of shot I would use would depend upon the terrain. For example, I would use a higher trajectory shot to go over an object, such as a greenside bunker. I was also taught, that I could chip with almost every club in the bag. I used to practice chipping with everything from a 60° wedge, to a 5 iron. I really like your videos, and will most definitely continue watching as I have subscribed to your YouTube channel, and look forward to all of your updates.

Clay, this might be one of my favorite videos of yours. I love how you simplify the setup and break down the nuances between each shot.

Question about setup: how do you feel about moving the ball forward or back in your stance, depending on which shot you’re going for?

Thanks to you and others I am playing golf. I love it. But when I am start watching your videos 4 years ago you were the first to help me. Thanks. 🙂👍

I just want you to have an update. I have sliced my whole life. My distance has been terrible. I started watching your videos last year and focusing on my technique. I improved very little last year but did slice a lot less, chipped with much more confidence. People noticed as well that my pitches from 60 yds off or so did better than these guys who have been killing me for years.

I continued watching your driver, irons, and chipping pitching videos this winter, and have a school behind me deserted from Covid . I take a bucket of balls, a 3 iron and a 9. I hit with the three toward a target, and hit second with the nine as I walk up to the target . Some days I take a seven and a 56degree. Because of the changes I've made watching your videos, my slice has been eliminated, my distance because I'm using my hips and legs has skyrocketed, and I'm even getting some lag. Thanks

I watched this video a few times and practiced in my front yard. Then, I chipped it on on the second hole the next time I played. Thank you!

That was by far the best example of a chip and pitch shots I’ve encountered

The addition of club selection for each movement was great and the information we all can use

I hadn’t played golf in a little over two years due to back issues. Needless to say my game was pretty rusty. I reviewed this video and liked the simplicity of it. My last outing, which really was only my second on the course, I pretty much stuck to the techniques taught on this video, and chipped and pitched pretty good. I only chunked once and bladed once mainly due to the lies. I think this is a very good video.
