Rollbacks do occur, however infrequently. The precision of the ride's sophisticated launch system can be vulnerable to small fluctuations in temperature, wind speed, and the weights of the trains. The ride is engineered to accommodate this phenomenon as a rare and uniquely thrilling part of the ride experience. After failing to crest the hill, the train reverses down the launch track and slows to a stop using a magnetic braking system. It is then reset and re-launched.

Top Thrill Dragster, introduced in 2003 as the world's tallest and fastest roller coaster, is located at Cedar Point on scenic Lake Erie in Sandusky, Ohio. Cedar point, known as "America's Roller Coast", is home to 17 world-class, record-shattering roller coasters, including Magnum XL200 (first in the world to top 200 feet), Raptor, Millennium Force (first to top 300 feet), Wicked Twister, Maverick, Gatekeeper, and Valravn. The newest to their lineup, Steel Vengeance, is hailed by many enthusiasts as the best roller coaster in the world.

Jesus....Dragster is definitely one of the best coasters in the world, cross your fingers that you get so lucky.

If you've never experienced this ride, it's worth that trip to Ohio alone. Plus you get Millennium and the new B&M hybrid...get out the house and round up the kids and get your ass to Sandusky.

For anyone that doesn't know about top thrill dragster....
420 ft high 120 mph 17 second long ride built in 2002. It has magnetic brakes on both sides incase of a roll back. When it was first built this was very common but now rarely ever happens. The computer adjusts the speed after every launch mainly based on wind speed. So the last launch prior to this one probably went over too fast so the computer changed the speed and this is what happened. Not broken and no one has ever died or been injured from a roll back.

This ride is worth the two hour wait! Plus it's like 2 seconds long...but worth it! If you don't make it over you get to go again BONUS! God can't wait to go Stay at the hotels and you get to go into the park earlier than general pop and stay later! Plus you hear people screaming on rides first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Sublime...

I had a Toyota like that...on hills if you couldnt race up em in one shot...you rolled backwards. Good experience for learning to drive fast in reverse...

The screwed up thing is is I was there for the opening year. It's been rolling back the entire time and I am very surprised no one's tried to actually fix it

When I was in 8th grade, I went here for the class field trip. Me and a couple of my friends were gonna go on it, but saw that it was doing that, and I was like, okay maybe it's just this once that it does it, but, no it continued to do it, but they insisted on going on it, but by the time they finished talking about it I was already gone

Fun fact: Each Rollercoaster at Cedar Point has a feature where if this happens...The coaster would come to slowing stop so you wouldnt fly off the rail, or go backwards very long. I have rode the Dragster a few times, and this only ever happened to me once. It is a bit scary, but knowing that they're are "backwards brakes" makes the situation a bit less stressful. The only time the backwards brakes don't apply to a coaster is at this ones Rollercoaster that just sends you forwards, and backwards, a few times, while spinning you. But its made to go backwards. The Dragster, although very fast, is actually very safe compared to most other coasters from around the world believe it or not. This is actually a somewhat rare occurrence to see. Mostly, after this happens, the TTD is left on hold for most if not all of the day.
Like every amusement park, they all aren't perfect, Im not saying Cedar Point is. But, they are always trying to improve on their attractions every day to make the whole experience fun, exciting, memorable, and safe, all at the same time!
