When someone tells me they got a new camera and they never have used one before, one of the first things I show them is the exposure compensation dial when using P mode. After that I teach them how to use A (aperture) mode. I tell them that the exposure compensation dial is your way into some really creative stuff. Even though I always use M mode (original habits die hard), I rarely teach that to people until they hit something neither A nor P mode can do, which is usually something out of reach of the light meter like long exposures. Any of these modes will bring you the exact same result and why not let the machine do the work? It's like having a little assistant! I do the same for manual focus these days. I teach people how to use it, but I also teach them how they can use autofocus to let the machine do the work and how to set focus points and all that. On Olympus bodies you can do that with your finger. Even with manual focus on Olympus bodies, I select the focus area with my finger then use magnify to magnify that spot to help me get focus.

With a lot of these, I feel that it's important sometimes to work smarter not harder and use the machine to help you then you can manually fine tune if you want. That lets you focus on composition and other important things when you're making your photos

Thank you Mr. Forsgård for elaborating on the basics with your videos here about photography and the equipment that goes with this.

Duplicating and inverting a mask to separate subjects from backgrounds in editing is so easy and logical that I ask myself why I needed this video to get this idea. Thank you for that!

With my (very)old camera (without scroll wheels) I used P-mode with bracketing to get a perfect exposure almost always.

Where did you get your Olympus Jacket? Great info in video!

You can assign Olympus cameras for AF and MF. So you will have AF and for usage of manual focus incl. focus peaking just start turning the manual focus ring. you do not need the clutch for switching to manual focus.

Great video - as always! I look forward to watching Peter’s videos - they always provide great tips! I’m envious about the new OM-1, but I’ve decided to wait a bit to see what OMDS will be releasing over the next few months.

Thank you for the video my friend. Do you have a detailed video on using the (program) mode?

I’ve learned that “focal length divided by apertur opening equals F”, so a 25mm f2 on a M43 or a FF gives the same exposure and DOF. So the light per square centimetre is the same. Isn’t that right?? A bunch of people say it’s not right.

P mode default, s to the widest aperture, handy if you wan, t shallow DOF, time criticle S mode, otherwise A mode is perfectly adequete in most situ, s. I bracket in third of a stop increament, s in HDR situ, s, work on the best outcome in LR. M mode is the best if you have time, your camera is a dumb machine, think it thru, we, d all be on A mode if it was perfect.
