Test drive of the LADA NIVA Legend Urban 5D (In English)

Urban 5-door modification is manufactured on the main production lines in AUTOVAZ. Altogether, in 2017 will be produced about 2000 cars which will be the third of all Lada 4x4 5-door models. This modification comes in only one, most full “lux” specification with the price tag 551 thousand rubbles (including discount) and it is the only one fully functional off roader in Russia with the price below 9 thousand US dollars. To compare, Urban Plus 3-door modification is selling for about 13.000 euro in Germany , and the cheapest version in Kazakhstan is selling for about 10 000 US dollars.

Two years had passed since I first drove Lada 4x4 Urban model. The next logical step was to launch long version of this car. And here it is- Lada 4x4 Urban 5 doors modification.
In the hot summer of 2014 the first 3 door modification of Niva Urban was introduced to the public. Its appearance caused quite a stir among the Niva enthusiasts. Opinions divided from majority, screaming “Niva is over” to rare approvals “It`s all good”.
Who inspired the idea of Niva evolution? It was now ex-president of AUTOVAZ, Swedish national Boo Anderson. He was the only one of the foreign managers who bought the old Soviet Niva long before he came to work in Russia.
But the time had shown it was right thing to do. Transfer box hasn’t changed, although several trial samples were created but never used in mass produced cars. In the end, Lada 4x4 Urban remained the work horse of Russian roads, it didn’t lose off-roading abilities even with the plastic bumper…Of course it wasn’t completely modified but it did look fresher than 40 years ago and it gained some consumer interest not only in Russia but overseas too. Lower levels of noise and vibration, air conditioning, electric mirrors and electrical window winders instead of ancient handles added to the car`s appeal . As a result, sales increased in Eastern and Western Europe, former Soviet Union republics and even South America.

Niva is the first unibody SUV in the world, all others with this design came over 20 years later.
This car is the reason everybody drives SUV's today, but this is the original one.

The only car designed by a committee that’s still around! When it debuted in 1977, the Lada Niva was the world’s first true SUV and has held that title ever since! 😊

Capability, utility, and reliability of most Russian machinery and equipment at such low price point is unmatchable. No wonder they’ve been forbidden to compete in capitalist consumer markets.

🇦🇺😎👍All our guns have to be (registered ) in Australia.. Once they’re ( registered ) they’re worth nothing. Try to off load one and you’ll give it away . Prior to 1997 guns were easy to sell. When the gun laws came in in 1997 most people didn’t bother to get a licence so they threw them to the back of the cupboard or handed them in . No gun licence and, no access to ammunition, gun range etc..The only people who seemed to get a gun licence were the fanatics being hunters, target shooters etc. . . . I apologise if I divulge too much information but what I’m doing is warning you what they have planned for youse eventually. Prior to 1997 the only firearms heavily restricted were handguns . Providing you got a handgun licence then you had access to those items. However handgun regulations are twice as strict as back then. Also it’s important to note we have very little firearms crime and overall Australia is not a violent country despite the government rumours…Never give up your rights otherwise you’ll be granted privileges like in the penal colony down under

Personally I like the layout in cab simple controls and high and low gears with diff too much electronic on modern cars.

But at 7:30, you changed to low range while moving? :O that's not good for the transfer case, as stated in the manual book, the vehicle must come to a complete stop to engage low/high gear.
I own the 3 door version, MUCH better for my daily driving and weekend off-roading :D I also fitted a mechanically locking rear differencial it's a beast!

An easy mod Lada should do at factory, is to split the hat shelf in two pieces, so it can fold for easier access to the trunk. Some more hp would be nice, small increase 30% or so.
It be Perfect imo.

If you turn the wheels the other way before you come to a stop, you can turn around more quickly and save wear and tear on the tyres and steering components!
