"At least the internet is down, as planned..."
As someone who works in IT support. I feel this, every day.

Omfg I just realized that my teachers used to say that the principal would come in to "check on US" so we had to be on our best behaviour. He was really checking on the teacher.... unbelievable.

I think this is a universal experience. Everything goes wrong on evaluation day, no matter where you work.

At our school it was actually more fun with the principal in the room, we were a really small district and the principal cared about everyone like they were her own kids. So she would engage along side us and crack jokes or fill out the papers with us, or whatever was happening that day. The school was wholesome... The teachers were their to teach, the students were there to learn, and the principal was there to support everyone.

The best teachers that I had always became so nervous during their evaluations. My heart always went out to them 🙏🏻💕

When I was in college, I was always listening to music in one earphone. All my tutors let me because I was always engaging with the lesson and I was always listening and answering questions and getting work done. One day, we had Offstead in (Basically a body that monitors education in the UK, but I've always seen them as having no real idea, especially when they are more likely to negatively review a teacher that makes lessons fun instead of sticking to lesson plans that don't make you want to learn). The Offstead person sat right next to me. I couldn't care less. I just did my usual thing. Stuff on desk, earphone in, phone on desk. I was answering everything as usual, engaging with the lesson and just being my usual self. They asked me, "are you supposed to be on your phone?", And I just answerd back with "Having a headphone in helps me concentrate and block out other things in the room. I'd be happy to go over anything with you, but I'm here to learn". Didn't get asked anything else by them the whole time. Felt really good.

I had a teacher in high-school that told his students to clap (like, give applause) whenever someone that was like a teacher or principal came in to class. The idea being, nobody would sneak in without him noticing and see him being a little more lax than administration would like him to be.

When I first became a teacher I had to have a final evaluation after 2 years of teaching. I was expected to show all my lessons plans etc for the entire 2 years. I planned a special lesson and had all my paperwork ready for presentation. The principal was to come and watch the forgot and signed the papers anyway.

I normally just tell the kids “Be good for me tomorrow, I’m getting evaluated.”

“What are you doing being honest for the first time since I’ve taught you”
This just makes so much sense and is so accurate
Edit: glad to see im not the only sane person on this planet.

There was one time my Spanish teacher was totally off task and just telling us a story from her life (in English) when the principal randomly walked in. She instantly switched to Spanish and reviewing verb conjugation and we all just nodded along ;)

We all loved storytime, no way we would've let her down!

Her answer to him while asking about the Starbucks reveals he's such a cool teacher. "You said it's cool as long as I bring you one. " Teacher goals right there. 🤣❤️

2 hours later:
*Teacher on the floor sobbing* "Please don't fire me"
Principle: "Fire you? Your evaluation was the best I've seen this week!"

Reminds me the one time in french class our teacher was showing us a movie with English sub. The principal came in and watch with us and we had to take 'notes'
At one point the movie said 'pussy' and everyone laughed but the principal looked away at the right moment. He asked what was so funny (he didn't know any french lol)

The teacher looked pale.

Everyone collectively said. "The joke isn't funny in English"

We got your back if you're a cool teacher 😌

I would also like to say this is every substitute teacher when a staff member walks into the room.

The end with the squeaky voice, I laughed out loud. God I needed a laugh!

The two times I’ve been randomly evaluated at my current school:

1. Explaining a rubric in excruciating detail to a room full of ELLs cuz no other way’s worked for me before (and when the admin brought up having them “figure it out, ” I flatly stated that I’ve tried that and it leads to failure).

2. In the middle of redoing a seating chart cuz I had meant to for awhile and the lesson ended much earlier than anticipated.

Honorable mention: Was asked if I would be cool with a prospective teacher viewing my lesson. Fortunately everything started breaking (eerily similar to the video) right before that message, and not after, so I said no.

My AP was generally really great, and would even give us a warning when she would be coming in for an unannounced visit. However, during the year I retired, for my final formal observation, I had a really great lesson planned. If I remembered correctly, I had groups of students (this was kindergarten) working together to build a structure. Each group had the exact same number of math cubes to build a structure with their partners. Some built houses, others built factories, some built amusement park rides—you get the idea. After the building period was over, the rest of the class took turns going to each group, asking their classmates about their structure. Each group also had to complete a worksheet describing their activity. All was going well until the AP got called away to handle an emergency about 10 minutes into the lesson. We continued along our merry way until we had to go to gym. I saw the AP in the lunchroom and she told me she would come in after lunch to see the rest of the lesson.
You can only imagine what I wanted to say. I tried to talk her out of it, saying it was my very last observation, and didn’t matter much anyway, but she insisted. I told her to give me about a half hour to get the children set up and motivated. I decided to ell the kids that the AP wanted to see their wonderful work, so thank goodness I had left their creations intact. They did a reenactment of their walk around and questioning each other. It worked out OK, but it took me a long time to cool down that afternoon. I think it involved a stop at Dunkin Donuts on the way home……
Funny thing is, we are still friends..
