They may be known as the Ice Age factory that dragged that franchise to the ground, but they were also pioneers of animation that didn’t get the credit they deserve

I give a lot of respect to Blue Sky, even though they are not the most successful animation studios. They had a legacy of making animated films from talented animators and artists. I hope they can find a new studio to work on, because that shut down was very devastating. R.I.P Blue Sky studios.

The first Ice Age film had a group of prehistoric animals bringing a human baby back to his family while Scrat has some funny shenanigans with acorns. The fifth film had them stopping a meteorite from colliding into earth while avoiding talking flying dinosaurs, meeting an immortal llama, Niel deGrasse Tyson weasel, while Scrat pilots an alien spaceship which caused a mass extinction to Mars. The franchise had really escalated badly.

I apologize, but Blue Sky being dependent on Ice Age was moreso Fox's fault than it is Blue Sky's.

This is absolutely devastating, Blue Sky was one of the studios that built my childhood along with Disney, Pixar, DreamWorks and Aardman. Hopefully Nimona will be picked up again by another studio like how Vivo was cancelled by DreamWorks and then picked up by Sony. I wish everyone who worked there happy and productive futures. Goodbye Blue Sky, you will always be special to me.

YES! THANK YOU MAT! I do think the oversaturation of the Ice Age franchise is more to blame for Blue Sky's downfall than what Disney did.

Again, I feel Fox forced them to make so much Ice Age that it put them in a position where there was no going back, and I don't think even Disney could have saved them with the time they had between the merger and the beginning of the pandemic.

And yes, I do also think Blue Sky still probably would have closed down without the merger. It's sad but true.

Animat does make a good point
Relying too much on one specific franchise can lead to some downsides.
I hoped one day I would get to visit Blue Sky studios, but I guess I’ll have to now cross it off my list. I will miss that studio. And I’ll never forget it’s movies Horton Hears a Who, Robots and the Peanuts Movie

Yeah, I got some friends who are not happy about this. I can't blame them and honestly should have seen it coming.

It's unfortunate that Blue Sky is closing down because while they didn't make the best movies in my opinion, the people making them are genuinely talented and skilled. They've made some good stuff I remember from my childhood.

Rest in Peace Blue Sky Studios

I’m going to miss you Blue Sky Studios. Your animated films outside of the Ice Age series might not have been the best animated features, but they definitely are beautiful to look at and do have some heart and value to them. I hope as time passes them become appreciated.

"Goodbye, Blue Sky!" I know it's a famous Pink Floyd song but it fits this sad moment in animation history. This studio was up there with PIXAR and DreamWorks during my childhood and now part of it's gonna be gone forever.

AniMat Sure, Blue Sky Studios has made a lot of Ice Age movies, but unlike you, I don't put all of the blame on Blue Sky themselves for that, it's more of Fox's fault for constantly telling Blue Sky to keep making more Ice Age movies because of their huge amounts of profit they made for them in the worldwide box office. Anyone else agree that Fox is more at fault then Blue Sky?

I do think that Disney closing Blue Sky was a bad move, but considering that they already own Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar, which are two of the biggest and most acclaimed animation studios in the world, it was inevitable that they didn't really need Blue Sky as much as these two. That explains it. And not to mention that they really relied way too much on the Ice Age series to succeed.

Hopefully the artists and animators will go onto do their own films
