I never had any serious interest in non-nintendo consoles, and Switch is a good example as to why.
My first console was the Sega Saturn, fml.

The scene:
Nintendo announces WiiU failed, and that they'll try something new instead. Sony decides to immediately follow suit, but this time without a mold from Nintendo they can snuggle into.
"What if... Our systems were upgradeable?"
Microsoft chimes in. "You mean like PC's?"
"Yes, actually, those are successful, after all. We'll just have more exclusives, and we can even pull off VR with our current hardware!" Sony explained.
"Well, when you put it like that, it doesn't actually sound so bad... (Though perhaps we'll just start phasing out our consoles, we'll start by removing exclusivity, we didn't do well this generation...) We CAN pull off VR, but we'll need upgrades to do it." Microsoft planned.
"Nintendo, what are YOU planning?" they inquire.
"Project NX." Nintendo announces.
"And that is...?"
"Our new console."
Realizing Nintendo wouldn't spill, the other two set about executing their ideas.

Much later, after both companies had set their plans in stone, Nintendo decides to speak up when the Public becomes worried.
"Announcing... The Switch!"
Both Sony and Microsoft were baffled. They asked Nintendo, "Where are the Upgrades? The VR?"
"The N64DD and Virtual Boy? The DD never saw the light of day, but our 3DS can do what we hoped the VB would, only in color. Even we couldn't pull off expansion packs."
Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo looked to the tomb of SEGA. Upon it, The Dreamcast, Saturn,

And a Genesis/Megadrive with a set of CD And 32X Attachments.

Too late it's done, I'm hyped. I'm not gonna preorder but I'll admit when we heard about the NX (I guess now "switch") I was like "I'm probably gonna do what I did with the Wii U and wait for the price to drop." but if the system delivers just on what this trailer shows I'm willing to buy it near launch which I have never done for a console.

I Pre-Ordered my Wii U to arrive on it's release date, i've owned one all it's life... I'm gonna fucking miss the damn thing :~: And even though it'll probably sit in some drawer in the near future, if i could talk to it, i would say: Thank you. Thanks for all the memories, i will always treasure you, and you will always have a place in my heart. Especially since you were the first nintendo console i actually owned entirely, and played on. Thank you Wii U... Good Game.
