These players are all great. Lowell George is usually overlooked so I was glad to see him on the list. Two other great ones are Roy Rogers (not the cowboy) and Ry Cooder. The best, hands down, is Duane Allman. Can’t understand how he was left off. As great as he was, imagine how much he would have progressed if he hadn’t died at age 24. Derek Trucks says that his style and sound is because he studied Duane.

Slide is so difficult to master... my hat is off to whoever does it well...I find it interesting how Johnny Winter used a small piece of conduit, and Lowell George used a Craftsman 11/16 deep socket, and both had such great tone...such a wide contrast...just keep playing...

check out Earl Hooker, and Sonny Landreth. Also, George Harrison was a real sleeper. Listen to what he did with Alvin Lee. My all time fave is still Duane Allman.

It’s all subjective, that being said all are superior slide players but I’m in agreement with previous comments regarding Duane Allman. Derek Trucks is close. There’s a best of Duane Allman playlist at the Miles of Entertainment channel with songs from all the different artists he backed up in the studio from Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett and more that shows his incredible ability to make someone else sound better without taking over and stealing the show. He’s number one and we can argue about the rest. Channel also has a nice top 20 slide guitarists video as well. For me- Allman, Trucks, Mick Taylor, Ry Cooder and Johnny Winter top 5.

It’s a crime you didn’t put Steven Seagal on this list as the number one slide player of all time lol We all know it’s not even close. Steven was playing slide since he was two years old and was taught by Paganini, Bach, and Beethoven. Even back then his mentors said he was better than Mozart was at his age. Seriously though Ry Cooder, Sonny Landreth, and Jack Pearson deserve to be in the top five. Jack Pearson is a beast and goes under the radar for most due to the Allman Brothers having the best slide guitar players to ever do it, From Duane, to Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes people lose sight of Jack Pearson who is one of the best ever and a personal favorite of mine. Got to mention Joe Bonamassa and Jeff Beck as well. Also lap steel, pedal steel, dobro, and Mohan Veena despite being played differently have some of the best ever in Robert Randolph, Speedy West, Jerry Douglas, and Vishwa Mohan Bhatt. Plenty of incredible technique for a slide player to be influenced by. With many famous singers also being some great slide players like Bo Diddley, Muddy Waters, Bonnie Raitt, George Thorogood and obviously the great Johnny Winter. Also Rod Price from Foghat, Elmore James, Robert Johnson, George Harrison, Mick Taylor, Joe Walsh, Billy Gibbons, Mike Bloomfield and one of my favorite slide guitarists and hit song with slide Gary Rossington from Lynyrd Skynyrd on “Free Bird”. We are so blessed these days with so many incredible players to steal from nowadays and Hindustani classical music has a boatload of unique musicians with unique sounds as slide guitarist who takes tons of inspiration from like Ali Akbar Khan.

These 5 are great players, I’ve seen Derek live more times than I can count. I’ve always loved Bonnie. But any list of great slide players has to have Duane Allman and Warren Haynes as 1 & 2!

Johnny Winter's "I love everybody" was my epiphany for slide guitar playing back in the early 70's.
In my opinion, Joanna Connor is one of the best of this variety! And...Justin Johnson, of course - the best ever!!!
