75% of Mali's population are farmers, but rich, land-hungry nations like China and Saudi Arabia are leasing Mali's land in order to turn large areas into agribusiness farms. Many Malian peasants do not welcome these efforts, seeing them as yet another manifestation of imperialism. As Mali experiences a military coup, the developers are scared off - but can Mali's farmers combat food shortages and escape poverty on their own terms?

I'm glad to see it looks like the documentary takes a balanced perspective. i.e. people (including farmers) concerned about land being taken out from under peasants, but also a farmer suggesting an interest in trying 'something new'. These issues are never simple, and anything that takes either an entirely pro-industry approach or an entirely pro-traditional agriculture activist approach misses many important elements. Well done Why Poverty in trying to tell a full story.

by sharing the resources equally and not by imposing high interest rates on the loans the BrettonWood Institutions offer to the third world countries.
