Hey FarmerKansas. When I was growing up here in the Deep South (Alabama), we had a lot of "farmers' markets" where farmers congregated in a low-rent area to sell their goods directly to consumers. My dad, who came from a fairly poor North Carolina background, loved to take us to these markets and buy our vegetables and fruits there. In any case, a farmers' market is one way that farmers can market their goods rather than depending on the middle-man.

For sure, i agree that Africans (like anyone) can benefit in ways from outside education or technology applied the right way, especially considering that traditional practices and communities have been lost to some degree. But mainly people need to control their own resources and economy.

But i just love it when people say "they don't know how..." without considering they had been thriving overall for many thousands of years.

Hello again, FarmerKansas! I have to agree with you. A farmer's market is indeed, one item in a larger set of options, none of which are necessarily exclusive. I'm glad there are folks like you who care. The possibilities that you mention also apply to many other small businesses & lone individuals, not just farmers - and not just farmers of produce. Ultimately we are all tied by how we are affected by the large firms and how they corrupt real capitalism by "buying" subsidies etc.

I totally agree. The best thing we could do to help Africa, is the teach them how to take care of themselves. All the food "we" give them only helps to artifically inflate the population there, and when food supplies are low then millions are starving. Also, it's not smart to grow wheat and corn in Africa as those crops aren't native there, and yields are low when grown in subideal climates.

Yes, I agree with you on economic colonialism as I've seen it first hand, but without ecological education it will take generations to learn everything from stratch. However, one does not need much money to survive if you are able to produce what you need by yourself, it could help reduce debt if there was a community effort in place.

If my comment came across as that, I didn't intend it to so I apologize for that. :) What I meant was that many African nations have changed their lives to a European way of life due to past colonialism, and now many live a life like a Western consumer without having the technology to generate that life on their own, so they are almost totally dependant on Western products and foods, many of which don't grow well in Africa, like wheat and corn, and with the right education it could be better. :)

Population is directly linked to standard of living. Raise the standard of living and population decreases.

Very complex topic. That has to be said.

But you say Africa needs no help? I've been to Africa. I strolled through the streets and saw nothing but hunger, crime and death.

Wealth? In Africa, the wealth was never in the hands of the people, but in the ground or in the pockets of few men.

In Africa evolution stood still, and whites took advantage of that. It is wrong, but it happened, because humans are selfish.

Accept the help. Africa needs it
