Heidelberg is a pretty town as well. If you're around Stuttgart or Frankfurt, it's worth a visit!

I totally agree with the comments that say that Hamburg is missing on this list. Hamburg is often rated by Germans as the best city for a good reason. And if you go to Hamburg don’t forget to visit Lübeck!

Instead of Cologne go to Hamburg. Instead of Mainz go to Bremen or Nürnberg. By visiting the Black Forest visit Freiburg and Konstanz. Instead of Neuschwanstein visit Burg Hohenzollern, or Eltz and Cochem. When you visit Berlin make sure you visit Potsdam if you like castles, old architecture and German cuisine

I travelled throughout Germany twice, my favourite city to visit is Nuremberg, but I am a history buff.

Yes, Bavaria is something fairy tale like.
But not to include Hamburg is really a mistake. I think she did concentrate on this castle, Middle Ages stuff, I really love it living once in Tübingen.
But Hamburg has its own flavor, inexplicable different, somehow energetic and a mixture of all somehow slightly eccentric. It's interesting but because of the people not because of the architecture. Our city was destroyed during the WW2. It's not the fairy tale anymore, town hall is beautiful and there is some areas with middle Ages architecture. Not very much although.
But we have a lot of parks, the river and Alster, the ship trips is something to experience.
The best although to go through the city and to breath this unique atmosphere. It's just something else.
By the way Lüneburg and Lübeck are pearls to find, the real fairy tales beauties and not far from Hamburg.

Been to 4 of the 10 destinations! I also recommend the city of Trier, Quedlinburg, Regensburg and Freiburg.

Go to Hamburg aswell. One of the most beautiful cities in Germany

Bamberg:
Largest city in Germany not bombed by the Allied Forces during World War II.
UN UNESCO Cultural Heritage Site.
Was capital of the Holy Roman Empire for a while.
A Pope is buried inside The Dom (this church is almost a 1000 years old).
Old Residence.
Neue Residence.
Alte Rathaus (look for the angle statutes on the outside of the building)
University town
Very easy to travel to either Berlin or Munich from here via Deutsche Bahn.
U. S. Army did have at one time a military base here.

Really Hamburg isnt on the List, but Cologne is? Hamburg is definitely the coolest city in Germany.
Also Berlin is very overrated

Neuschwanstein and Rothenburg are so overrunned with tourists. It can be very annoying there.

I mean Mainz is a beautiful city, but I don’t think that it’s special enough for the top ten. Instead of Mainz I would put Trier in the top ten, as the oldest city in Germany and the former Roman capital city of the northern territories of the Western Roman Empire. 😄
Furthermore Cologne and the Castle Neuschwanstein are highly overrated. Instead I would take Hamburg and the Burg Eltz. 😄
