Welcome back to Thailand! We're home today in Chiang Mai, and I am in the mood for some Thai food. Undoubtedly Bangkok's favorite dish, I would also say that "Pad Ka-Prao" is the go-to order for ALL of Thailand - even up here in the north. This dish is getting me so excited today, that I want to go searching for the best and most fun recipe in the whole city.

Thank you for joining Li and I as we are going to visit "Taa Nuad," a place very recently famous for making just an incredible (gigantic) platter of Thailand's favorite dish. Let's go!!

LOCATION:
Find "The Mustache's" Restaurant (Ka-Prao Taa Nuad) here, on Google Maps

COST OF THIS MEAL:
Normal size dishes at this restaurant cost around 40-50 Thai Baht (1.50$US)
This giant platter (with added extras) costs 349 Baht (10$US)

I love his slogan. 😅
บริกานดุจญิติมิตร = We serve you like family and friends.
ทุกชีวิตแล้วแต่ดวง = It depends on everyone's luck.
As he explained, when it gets busy he might not be able to serve everyone. If you're unlucky, you'll miss out.
That's a very common rhyme pattern in Thai. The sound of the last syllable in the first sentence is matched somewhere in the middle of the next sentence. You hear it in Thai songs all the time.
But he also rhymed the first and third syllables of the first sentence:
"Dut yaht mit" "Tuk chee wit".
Very clever. He obviously put a lot of thought into it.
It's difficult to translate that into English and keep both the literal and sense meaning, make it sound catchy, and still make it rhyme. The best I can come up with is:
"Here you are treated as family and friends.
Are we able to serve you? On your luck it depends!"

I adore this dish. When I miss Thailand, I think of this dish (and Tom Yum). Just the flavour goes so well with the rice, and the chilli dances on your tongue 😅

Sabaidee Joel! Oh man! I’ve never seen a Pad-Ka-Prao platter before. Genius idea. At the restaurants I work at we have Som Thum platters but who would’ve thought to make a platter of Pad-Ka-Prao.

Welcome back! Great to see you doing local (for some of us, ) Chiang Mai places! You've found another great place I've never heard of!! Yes! Pad Gapow is like what Hamburgers and Hotdogs are in the U.S. Ubiquitous but always a good, filling simple dish. One can get "fancy" versions or be happy with what's served at thousands of small, local stands.
