One man's trash is another man's treasure. #FromTheArchives, we'd like to share what remains of this special drumhead from President Hoover's Inauguration. #NationalLibraryWeek

On March 4, 1929, the weather conditions for President Herbert Hoover’s Inaugural Ceremony and Parade were less than ideal. What started as a drizzle at the beginning of the ceremony ended in a downpour and continued throughout the parade. Many of the band’s instruments were ruined including the drumheads. When one of the drummers returned this broken drumhead for a new one, the Quartermaster’s clerk decided to keep it as a memento and inscribed the names of several of the Marines who participated in the events onto the drumhead.

Hope you find this of interest.Since 2019 your cousins the Royal Marines (UK) have been using British made Drums. Co. RS 1 drums. Each one contains a small piece of oak (a washer I believe)from Admiral the Lord Nelsons flagship HMS Victory (now a floating museum) courtesy of of The National Museum of the Royal Navy.
