The difference in the sound of the two drums is due to the fact that the drums have two different heads on them.  A true comparison would have encompassed using the same heads AND same tuning on both drums.

the most obvious thing, that is always overlooked, that i tell people starting out with percussion is that there is usually only ONE drum set on stage. Why do i say this? Because playing live comes down to the quality of the band, the quality of the accessories (heads, symbols, microphones etc..), and arguably most important the "quality of the sound guy!" Yes! A novice sound guy can take any kit and make it sound like a low quality kit. Also note that if you pick up a set of Exports (I own a set and play them all the time because my Gretsch kit is too expensive to take to most places) chances are Danney Carrey or the ghost of Buddy Rich will not be waiting for you on stage with a set of $10, 000 custom made drums just to show how bad your Exports are. So, in closing, buy yourself a nice kit if you can for recording and large shows, but if you can't, don't feel compelled too. This gentlemen in the video is 100% correct. Go get a set of Exports for $400, put nice heads on the beater side and the resonance side (learn how to do that), tune them properly, get a good snare head (top and bottom), replace the factory snares (a guitar center guy can show you how to do that), and get some mid market brass and hardware. All said, you'll spend about $800 total and have a kit you can gig with every weekend and won't be afraid if someone spills a beer on it. Cheers!

Lol i wante to change my pearl export for a new dw collectrs but after seeing this video, i will save the money hahahaha just joking ;) i just need new heads hahaha
