This is why it’s always important to be honest with your doctor.

Always tell your anesthesiologist everything! That’s the person.

I have ADHD meds and was asked to go off for a kidney stone removal. It was weird, but I also had named my IV Maurice when I woke up, so there’s also that-

So adderall increased the release of some neurotransmitters. (Also inhibits reuptake of some as well) This can in theory lead to depletion of those neurotransmitters. This can lead to a decreased anesthetic requirement or more likely a decreased sympathetic response. Also in theory it means you should use direct acting vasopresors and inotrops like neo, epi, and norepi; not ephedrine. But this is all in theory and can vary by patient. So yes tell us what drugs you take legal or not but once you’re asleep we will do what it takes to correct your BP and/or HR to keep you safe.

ADHDer here. Well this is fun news. 😂 I’ll keep it in mind if I ever need surgery again.

Well this explains a lot to me, not one time was I asked about my adhd medication and was asked once (when the versed wasn’t working) what street digs I was using 😡

I'm currently tapering down my Adderall to prepare for surgery [my surgeon's request, since the vasoconstriction can affect healing] & OH BOY, DOES IT SUCK. Lmao, I made sure to prepare all of my bags a month early, while I was still on my normal dose, just so I don't forget later. 😂🤣

Very good to know that going off them will reduce my anesthesia requirements, tho!

Why can’t they see what you’ve been prescribed on their computer system? I was born in a Kaiser Permanente hospital, and have been with them for 29 years, my current age. And yet the different doctors I see don’t know what other doctors have done unless I specifically tell them to check.

I am a person with ADHD that has paradoxical reactions. So give me amphetamines any kind of stimulant that will put me directly to sleep give me opioids and I can party all night. So what do you do in the true sense of a person who actually does have a DHD and I choose to go on medicated because I actually love the energy that I have.

I didn’t take my adder-all before my surgery because I was concerned it would fight against the meds to put me under. Regardless I still remember waking up and feeling the pain. Luckily they responded quickly. But I sure don’t want that to happen again if I have my other knee replaced.

Why do they need to hold the o2 mask on your face so hard? I start to feel like they are suffocating me

Mmm 🤔 that’s interesting! I have ADHD and Take two medications for my ADHD. 1 Stimulant & 1 non stimulant. I’ve always made sure they have my full medication list. I’ve never asked if body weight and adhd medication can increase the dosage for anesthesia medications. I’d be curious to find out tho!

Do substances like roids weed mushrooms lsd ect. affect the anesthesia and do other mental disabilities have to do with it like autism and down syndrome. And is it true that they use Fentanyl when they do surgeries

Oh yeah I was asked to stop taking my adhd meds before surgery because of this, sense I took the semester off it wasn’t so bad

So will a child(or whoever) that's on stimulant ADHD medications be more sedated on anesthesia, or less sedated(and thus may need more?)
I ask of course due to the somewhat paradoxical nature/effects of stimulants like Adderal, Ritalin, etc. in people with ADHD(meaning despite being stimulants, they actually calm them down.)
So how do these stimulants affect the anesthesia drugs/process besides needing more or less of a medication, or needing to use a different medication? Like, even though amphetamines may calm them down, do they still have other "traditional" side effects of stimulants(e.g. increased heart and respiratory rate, hypertension, etc.?)
