Problem Solving: How to apply timepicker on any date field (Part I)

In This tutorial we discussed about how to override splunk time picker default behavior (filter data by _time) to filter data based on any time field user selected.

Question: In your following videos you convert the source data date format in order to use a custom dropdown ('filter by'). However, the default filter behaviour (apparent when using the 'Time Picker' drop down) seems already able to understand the source data date format. So I don't understand the need to convert the source data date format when you add the other time picker. Thank you.

Hi, what if my _time and created_date are not the same? Would the time picker still go by the created_date? If not, how would I do it?
