Former US President Donald Trump was rushed off stage after gunshots erupted at a rally in Pennsylvania in an apparent assassination attempt.

The suspect was shot dead at the scene by US Secret Service agents, the service's spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said. He added that one bystander was killed in the shooting and two others were critically injured.

Law enforcement sources told the BBC's US partner CBS News that the male attacker had been armed with a rifle and had fired from an elevated structure a few hundred metres away outside the venue. They added that the attack was being treated as an assassination attempt.

An eye witness says the attacker was on the roof for several minutes before opening fire, and that they alerted the police to his whereabouts. How can he have stayed up there so long unchallenged?

How is it possible there can be a guy on a roof, isn't the secret service checking all these things?

How could that guy climb a roof at 150m distance with a rifle in his hand, taking the position, preparing, aiming and firing not be seen by those police snipers, drones etc?

Secret services not securing the perimeter is mighty suspicious

Sad about innocent victims who were killed

How did Secret Service allow for a rooftop 200 yards away with a clear and elevated view of Trump's stage to not be secured?

The Secret Service needs to be thoroughly investigated

Maybe someone can explain this to me. I just don't understand, if the shooter was not seen by the Secret Service due to "line of sight", when crawling, preparing for a shot and being pointed out by the eye witness... YET, almost INSTANTLY getting killed by the Secret Service within next 7 seconds after taking his first shot. This does not make any sense. If Secret Service does not see him, because of "line of sight" than how can they kill him in 7 seconds? Secret Service immediately turned on "Wall hack"?

Easton Smith, who was outside of the security perimeter at the rally, said he saw a man climbing up the roof of a nearby building. Smith said he tried to alert the authorities for three to four minutes, but thought they probably could not see the gunman because of the slope of the roof. “Why is there not Secret Service on all of these roofs here?” he asked. “This is not a big place. It’s a security failure, 100% security failure.”

This is getting ridiculous... Shit is getting unhinged and I feel it's only going to escalate.

Look at the people in the crowd just sitting there and pulling their phones out to record.

The Kennedy mystery is still unsolved, what makes you think their findings are true.

Isn’t the Secret Service in direct view of the shooter? Wtf

The witness that was telling the cops about the shooter with a rifle is not suicidal. I'm surprised to see this interview even on here.

The police were told about a man with a rifle on the building and did nothing

This whole story is very suspicious, considering noone paid attention to the guy warning about the man with the riffle getting on the roof...

shooter was 140 yards away. Not exactly a 'shot from outside the venue'. With a rifle, that is an easy shot, even for a lowlife with an AR15. This is a MIRACLE folks, and a tragedy at the same time for those killed/wounded. Secret Service massively failed today.
