The first time I heard of this, I was watching a video and people were going to investigate. They claimed that nobody had ever lived there. While trekking through the area they kept going in water, out of water, in water, and out of water. I looked at the location on Google Earth and there are very visible ancient canals there. The body of water the island is in, was likely a water storage tank. The island likely formed by debris that fell into the water over centuries, plants grew on the debris and eventually a layer of soil built up on top. It would be kept floating by the decay of the lower part which would release gases. There are many such floating islands in the world, a lot of them man made, and others made by nature.

Put a random rock in a rock tumbler and sooner or later, it's circular/spherical as well. Wind, water and/or friction will ultimately take two irregular shaped bodies (in this case, the lake and the island) and smooth out all of their edges to create smooth, circular boundaries. The lake itself can't move or leave; the island - which is literally a floating bog - can't escape the lake's boundaries. Bump, scratch, scrape over decades, centuries, and eons: boom, you have a rounded out lake and a round bog island that grows to encompass as much of the lake as possible given constant shifts in winds and water levels.
