1:53 Aokiji is right, the marines really were asking for this. They lost a lot of men and got their headquarters destroyed. Killing whitebeard didn’t really do any good for them, he’s one of the few good pirates. It’s ironic how they let the biggest threat to them walk away though, Blackbeard. Kizaru easily could have speed blitzed him but for the sake of plot Blackbeard will live on.

Imagine if Whitebeard arrived at Marineford with the remnants of the Roger Pirates — to save their captain’s son. Silvers Rayleigh and Scopper Gaban (pending he’s alive) in particular.

Messing with Whitebeard was Marines biggest mistake. He's an Emperor that doesn't care about invasion or treasure but his strength maintained the balance of the sea. At least while he is in charge, the World Government doesn't have to worry about any sinister plan like Kaido and Big Mom doing.

And yet they chose to mess with the most strongest yet neutral pirate forces in the sea. Only to be replaced with more dreadful Blackbeard.

In chapter 944 Kaido mentioned “But rather in death,  that humans truly attain perfection.” This is probably his core principle in life which explains his desire for a place to die. Kaido wants to die in an epic way as well, just like how Whitebeard, Roger and Oden did

But after being introduced to him I find it more likely that Kaido actually tried to go to Marineford all by himself without bringing anyone with him with the sole purpose to die in the war.

His first words in the Manga? He complains about the fact that WB could die and he's jealous of it.

Perhaps he thought only WB was strong enough to kill him or that 3 Admirals, the Shichibukai, Garp, Sengoku would be enough to end his life.

It also make much more sense regarding Shanks meeting him and still getting to Marineford the next day without any injuries and none of his core crewmembers missing, if Kaido was all by himself there's not much he could do against an entire Yonko crew even though 1 on 1 he'd give Shanks a hell of a fight.

I'm a new One Piece watcher (recommended by my very good friend Isaac). I came on here after reaching episode 469 and the amount of chills I got during the Marineford episode is absolutely crazy. Whitebeard the most OG🥶 character I've seen in a long time. I'm about to see the rest of the Marineford arc unfold and I'm happy to get to know the OP community and I'm already a huge fan. Oda is simply a genius and the storytelling is just unrivalled and top notch superior. I'm happy to be a part of this journey. Chapter 470+ commences in a few hours. Thank you guys❤
