Most unpaid internships are illegal. They're just a way for businesses to get free labor. Unpaid internships generally don't guarantee you a job later either so it's not worth it.

If you get toxic vibes from the recruiter don't even bother interviewing. In my opinion if the recruiter shows toxic behavior then it's safe to assume the entire company is toxic.

Remember, the recruiter is your first glimpse inside the company.

Hey Shane, I also think this is another Red Flag 🚩
Companies that struggle to adjust to the technology curve, outdated systems and people.

Thanks so much! I've experienced a lot of things you stated in this video during interviews. So glad these toxic practices are getting called out.

I wanna add one from personal experience that coincides with 8. Watch out for companies that tote their benefits package and work culture incessantly. There's a rising trend of companies that like to use free health insurance and a month's worth of vacation as an excuse to hire people at 20% under their market value. They also like to give you 2 extra days of vacation this year in lieu of any pay raises.

Ask them why the position is open, if they stated the last person was not a good fit. I highly suggest you decide to look elsewhere. Because you’ll be the next person they fire for not being the right fit. The last person was only with the company for 30-120 days max.

Phrases to watch out for:
Super flexible=you’ll be on call 24/7
Work hard play hard=you will be busting your ass on Hawaiian shirt day and we expect you to join the company softball team.
Thick skin/sense of humor=get used to being harassed and discriminated against and we will take no action to punish offenders.
We are always hiring= our company has high turnover.
You are replaceable=you will be fired if you so much as breathe at the higher ups wrong.
We are family=a dysfunctional one.
You will wear many hats= you will be doing the jobs of three people but compensated for one.

When communication is done irresponsibly and untimely. That’s not professional.

So I got hired immediately probably with a start up. I had to ask what the company is about and sent a few email questions to hear from him. I waited until the day he was supposed to send me a video link to train me, which he never did, and he never responded. So i sent a goodbye email and left it. The group chat we had with another coworker started before my start date and she had to keep trying to reach him and get a response.

I wish I had trusted my "bad vibes" Spidey sense on several job interviews that later I accepted the job offer and began working. All turned out to be very toxic work environments. One interview question that I got was "Are you interviewing for this job, just because you need a job ?" Like a dummy, I accepted the job and it turned out as being as bad as you would expect working there.
