"The center of your burrito cooks at the same speed as the outside" Lol. I always find a frozen center with a lava exterior.

But is the microwave heats it all over from the inside to the outside why is the inside of the foods i heat up almost always colder?

Another great thing about microwaving broccoli, is you can use a bowl and an ounce or two of water and a covering (like a paper plate or other microwave-safe cover) to steam it. About 3 mins of steaming will still leave plenty of nutrients, though you should also be eating raw vegetables as well for their nutrient content

Thank you for that episode. It annoys me so much, that you hear this myth so often between health conscious people. I guess it has something to do with an information bias. People read studies in which it is stated, that vitamins get broken down by microwaving, but they propably don't tell you, that this happens with other cooking methods as well.

I misread the title, I thought it was "Does Microsoft food destroy its vitamin?"

The inside of the Hot Pocket is frozen while the outside burns you

Microwave everything on low power! That way the heat has time to diffuse and you aren't vaporizing everything.

Can you guys do another video in the future using more studies including a variety of foods? This video was informative but only looking at a study on broccoli and primarily it's vitamin C levels is not enough for me lol. Thanks

Well I'll be... And here I was told my whole life that microwaving food was bad for you.

If I put my head in the microwave will my brain turn into popcorn?

Hot Pockets transcend the laws of electromagnetic radiation by either being a frozen tundra or lava on the inside but the outside will never give you an indication of which it is.

Oddly enough, microwave cooking always begins on the outside and only gradually works its way in. This is easily proved by actually microwaving something.

"The center basically reheats at the same time as the whole burrito" My Hot-pockets would beg to differ here.

There's an aspect of microwave operation you didn't cover, the importance of the turntable. AS I UNDERSTAND IT, if you cooked something in a microwave that wasn't turning you would get bands that cooked and bands that didn't matching the waveform of the microwaves. This, I BELIEVE, is why something at the very center of the turntable (so it stays in the same place) can remain frozen when everything else cooks.

I try to offset what I place in there so everything moves around.

Finally, I can now just show this to my family rather than try to explain that microwaving food is not bad.

Yay. The amount of urban myths about microwaves where I live is uncanny. This is a great reference to start pointing people to actual science.
