Yeah ok… when I’m getting 1 to 2 orders of magnitude more views, likes, follows, engagement, EVERYTHING across the board with Instagram vs YouTube… exact same content…. A short form content video that gets hundreds of thousands of views on Instagram gets less 2000 views on YouTube… 😑

And now half my YouTube channel subscriber growth is just spill over from Instagram….


If I left it up to YouTube to decide who to show my stuff too I would still be thinking no one likes my content/I’m bad at making content… no YouTube suggestion algorithm is just absolutely horrible. And I say this as a viewer. I’m absolutely appalled with my experience as a viewer on YouTube.

I don’t know how many times I need to click “not interested” on videos for a topic I’m not interested in before YouTube stops serving me videos about that topic but +200 times still isn’t stopping them from constantly serving me videos about that exact topic. There’s absolutely nothing in my search history or view history that would elicit these suggestions from YouTube.

Im just so tired of hearing that it’s me not the algorithm. BS!

Again as a viewer the suggestion algorithm is absolutely terrible.

Unless my channel is just straight grey banned there’s absolutely no reason why my YouTube stats should look like this.

Like I literally gained 3000 followers (I have almost 10k) because of spill over from Instagram and then a few weeks after that growth I posted a video and the video didn’t even get as many impressions as viewers recently gained. The video had +12% click through rate, + 50% watch percentage, it’s stats we’re up across the board and I get a notification from YouTube saying “this video isn’t appealing to as wide of an audience…” excuse me no you’re just not placing it anywhere…

Again if it wasn’t for Instagram showing me my content is just fine I would have given up ages ago. YouTube is falling behind FAST and they are doing NOTHING to change to stop that from happening. They’ve made ZERO changes to their platform in years now, meanwhile all the other platforms are offering new features almost everyday… I’m seriously about to stop paying for my YouTube membership because why would I pay for YouTube when I doesn’t even suggest me content I actually want to watch… 😒

So for about 2 months, I've been really focussing on learning the basics (video editing/thumbnails etc.) And learning a bunch of stuff about YouTube from VidIQ.
I started posting content about 2 weeks ago and I've gained almost 100 subs!
What I absolutely recommend on doing is : Really do your homework before starting to post on YouTube! ( I know you want to post asap to see how many views you'll get.) But it's really important to have quality over quantity, especially when you are just starting your channel!

I am not getting shorts feed views from 3 months. I have good thumbnails, titles, tags and video quality is good. But the views isn't increasing .

Think of the algorithm as the audience. Humans are behind of everything, they decide what to click, decide how long to watch, decide whether to binge watch content and subscribe to the channel! Great video Rob!

It's like when someone complains that the algorithm hates their channel, you tell them to replace the word "algorithm" with "people" and they get the blunt answer they're searching for.

i've been on youtube since about 2011. i've seen it evolve so much. it has improved, no matter how many people complain about all the issues.

So here is a question, regarding the algorithms - our channel is solely based on a Game Warden, archival videos through a 34 year career in law enforcement. It seems as though the algorithm video tutorials are all geared toward how to channel vids and other channels that are not geared as a series or show about things aside from those topics.
We have 6000 plus cases and incidents plus wildlife rescues and rehab clips etc.
I have also noticed that some of the huge channels in law enforcement content, though getting hundreds of millions of views, the channels are not monetized by YouTube so they have to rely on Patreon etc.
What does the algorithm do for channels like ours ?

agreed - the algorithm is not our enemy! We've had some success doing the following:

1) Improving the quality of our thumbnails on long-form content
2) Posting shorts 3-5 times per week
3) Posting long-form 3-4 times per month (at a consistent cadence)
4) Actively engaging in the comment sections of our videos and other channels

There still feels like a small amount of "luck" or "randomness" sometimes, but I definitely think it's working! We've been following your tips and have gone from 20 subs to almost 80 in the last month.

I do not watch cute teenage asian boy singers, I do not watch videogame videos, I do not watch makeup and family life style videos. But YouTube keeps me fully supplied with those videos I never watch.
I'm over 55 and none of those videos interest me at all.
I like to watch History Videos on WWII, I Do like to Yacht Videos, I like to watch some car vides. Hobby Videos. But more than half the videos suggested by YT are stuff I would never watch.
If I had a a way to just tell YT to stop giving me Makeup, Music, Video game, type videos that would be great.
I do find it funny that YT thinks I like to watch Australian local news too, but I live in the USA
