There is money allocated for this, so why has that not been distributed? Many landlords are not rich, so they need to pay mortgages, or they could get foreclosed by the bank so owner and renter are both at risk. Why is Congress missing in action? They don’t need to be in the Capitol they could pass this on a Zoom vote. Just phone it in Congress persons! Congress’s role is only to extend the moratorium until the money is distributed. That the can do by phone.

Small landlords will lose their property. Blackrock will probably buy it up.

I feel like this is kicking the can down the road a bit. There needs to be a more permanent solution because right now those renters are just racking up debt with their landlords and if those landlords have a mortgage, they're on the hook too.

Has it occurred to anyone that landlords who can't get the rent, can't pay the mortgage and taxes on the properties? When the banks foreclose, those people will be evicted anyway. Who wins?

Great! We'll kick everyone out in October, right before winter! Score!

How did the CDC gain the authority to end rent? Yeah, it's going to go down in court, I don't think even the legislature could get away with this in court let alone some rando agency that has nothing to do with property or housing.

Rent is too damn high in this country 💸

The problem with this is the landlords have to pay the mortgage… somebody has to pay the banks the loans.

I’m certainly empathetic for the folks that can’t afford to pay their rent, but what happens to the landlords that aren’t getting rent and are going to lose their properties because they can’t pay the mortgages on those properties?

It's good ppl won't b put out on the streets. Landlords have bills too, they have mortgages too, WHO IS HELPING THEM ? They shouldn't lose what they have worked for, it's not right.

Occupying someone else’s property and not paying agreed upon rent isn’t progressive. There isn’t help for the landlords who have bigger bills to pay.

This is just ridiculous, we have a neighbor renting the house 2 doors down and they have not paid their rent this entire time and he goes to work for himself everyday and his wife works as well. He already told me he's not paying any of it back and is "stashing cash". I know the people that own the home and there is nothing they can do about it at the moment. So much wasted income potential, this is their retirement income and they will probably never see a dime of it. I am a Democrat through and through, but some things I just can't help but shake my head at. People take advantage by nature and they always will.

I don't feel great about the court upholding it. But as is so often the case in legal issues, at the very least it buys time. And when it comes to having a roof over your head, every extra day is a win

I’m gonna sound ignorant here, but I didn’t know that the mass eviction crisis was still a thing. With covid restrictions lifted, obviously prematurely, and tons of places hiring, I guess I just thought people were largely getting back into the swing of things. Hate to hear that it’s still a pretty big problem.

Deferring rent payments indefinitely must be frustrating for landlords and property owners. It's not a sustainable solution.

Explain that there is help with money for landlords. It was in the bill and is not being spent.

I don’t understand how the CDC can pass laws.
