I don't understand how they expected landlords to supply free housing.

No one ever suspended property taxes - anywhere...

I mean... the cdc doesn’t have the authority to say something like that.

This is all going to come crashing down. The perfect storm. Market is already at hyperinflation.

Let’s be honest, they milked this as long as possible. I’m not a big fan of landlords and paying rent either, but these people have to pay bills and live too, and I wouldn’t want someone living on my property rent free for over a year. Really??🤔

He misspoke when he said "not able to keep up with rent". He should have said "taking advantage of the system".

A lot of people are going to own nothing, have nothing, and have nothing to lose.

Good. Landlords are people too. And a lot of them have 1 or 2 properties, not 100s of apartments.

Our tenant refused to pay rent for over 1 year. When asked to apply for rental assistance, he said he doesn't feel like it. He doesn't wear mask, doesn't look for a job even though hiring signs are all over. CDC should be held accountable for hurting many american's lives.

Why are property owners responsible for housing folks on their dime? Are stores expected to give away their goods? So ridiculous.

Good. My neighbor hasn't been paid in so long, his family is struggling because his renters are blowing their money on other things knowing he can't evict them! I'm sorry for those that are actually struggling, I've been evicted, it sucks. Those that are taking advantage of this though for their own selfishness need to pay up or get out. Maybe with bills actually due finally people will be ready to stand up to the bs and get back to work.

So who was paying the landlord's bills?

Unless you have a moratorium on land lords obligations to pay mortgages, utilities, property taxes, payroll for superintendents, repairs, upkeep and oh yes real estate taxes then you should not have a moratorium period. Many landlords are small business people and rely on the rental income to feed and support their families including children. Landlords who cannot receive their rents may be unable to pay their mortgages and be subject to foreclosure and lose everything ending up bankrupt. Wake the hell up.

the CDC had NO business declaring an eviction moratorium.

Too many renters are abusing the system and taking advantage at landlord's expense.

How about some sympathy here for landlords too. Let's tell the CDC to give all their pay to tenents to pay their rents.

Unless there was going to be a moratorium on property taxes and maintenance regulations as well, then it should have never happened to begin with.
It's time to open everything back up and let the chips fall where they may.

What about struggling landlords that can't keep up with their mortgage payments? Meanwhile there are people living rent free and trashing the property.
