If you compare the accent of jgl with Phillipe Petit in Man of Wire, it's actually pretty close.

Saw it tonight: Opening night, in IMAX 3D (I also saw Man on Wire, most recently 2 nights ago). I quite enjoyed The Walk, actually. They were pretty faithful to the actual account, and made it quite entertaining. Now, it is true that the documentary is already great, but the documentary is NOT in IMAX 3D! This made it all the more thrilling! Like you both, I was SUPER tense during the WTC walking scenes. I think that, for the uninitiated (those who HAVE NOT seen Man on Wire), this is still a rather engaging & thrilling film. But that's not the REAL reason I'm here... The REAL reason I'm here is to say that Ti is Beautiful, and that I wish to marry her. No, really! I'm serious! She's Beautiful (mind that capital B), and I want her to be the mother of my children! I watched this entire review just so I could stare at her face! So, there: I said it. Don't worry, Ti: I don't actually expect you to RESPOND to this statement. But I had to let you know how gorgeous you are. Truly Lovely. Keep up the good work!

Guys, the whole movie was so beautiful. Philippe is such an amazing person and Zemeckis wanted to develope Philippe's character and life while at the same time to show as much details of how the walk got done. You sound like you just don't care for Philippe's story and went to the cinema for the obvious - watching the main character walking on the wire.

Interesting... So, it sounds like the first part is borderline boring, and the "on wire" part is too stressful - there is just no winning for The Walk. To be honest, that's what I thought when I saw the trailer - we're coming to see JGL walk on wire (and if it's done well it will be scary), and have little interest in the setup. I'll still probably see it, mainly because I want to know how well I will deal with the walk itself in 3D :) Thanks for the detailed review!

I was really hoping it would be better. I love Zumeckis. Although I can't say I'm too pleased with his decision to remake Forrest Gump. Have you heard about that? It sounds ridiculous.

I remember me and my brother were sitting in the theater to see Fury Road I believe, and the coming attraction came on for this movie. As soon as we saw the outside of the World Trade Center, we both just whisper "oh fuck..."

i like how they give actual backstory on the guy, it would have been boring if all he did was walk on the wire, why would you want that? how would they even fill the time? i was interested the whole way through.

I watched this movie last sunday, the night before I watched " Man On Wire " which was an excellent documentary about the event from 1974 and it got tears in my eyes, but I agreed with you guys, the movie didn't get me until the actual event and I would have rather cast a french actor who can speak english, Joseph was passion about it, but it was too much and the narration, the way it was done it was just too damn annoying and distracting, Joseph in the movie was kind of a weak spot sadly, but yeah 3D the actual " walk " that was worth the price of my ticket

Christian Bale's natural accent isn't American and yet he played several Americans. Alicia Vikander is swedish and yet she performs British accents, as well as American accents in her roles. Will Farrell learned how to speak fluent spanish for his role in 'Casa de mi padre' and he went the extra mile for the one scene where he does speak english by performing his line with a heavy mexican accent.

There's plenty of other examples of Actors performing accents that are not their own. It's a common thing. Just because it's an American doing a French accent that doesn't make it bad. Although, I will admit that his accent does sound overdone. Other than that, it was an informative review and I wasn't planning to see it but now that you guys said the actual wire scene was just so good, I might just see it...maybe...meh

If the movie is useless until he does the wore thing, doesn't that make the whole movie useless? I mean, it was fake and already happened so if the best part is a remake of something that was actually done then I don't see the point.
