SMOKIE Babe It's Up To You
Показать описание
The second single lifted from their 1979 LP 'The Other Side Of The Road', 'Babe It's Up To You' performed best in Austria and Germany where it managed a Top 10 placing, but it failed to crack the Top 40 in Britain, or Australia where the band were very popular and chart mainstays after their 1977 smash 'Living Next Door To Alice'. 'Babe' could only get to #60 in Australia in the January of 1980, and was indicative of the fact that the band's best days were now behind them, and they had lost their popularity downunder - they would struggle to have hits in the new decade. 'Do To Me' released in advance of this album, was to be their last major hit here, reaching #16 in the middle of 1979. Their only chart entry in 1980 would be their cover of the Bobby Vee song 'Take Good Care of My Baby' which would stall at #48 in Australia in the middle of 1980. Ironically the lead singer Chris Norman would have his break out American success with Suzi Q in 1979 with 'Stumblin' In' - a worldwide hit. There is no mistaking the sublime harmonies on Smokie's records and they will forever be a 70's pop/rock favourite for their series of chart successes from the mid 70's til the end of the decade. All good things must come to an end!
