I just saw this for the first time - LOVED IT!! By the way - on the flip - that was me! I've only recently stopped editing the main channel videos as of a few weeks ago!

Great job! Since the start of the channel, we have learned a lot about editing such as the J-cuts, the importance of rhythm when using b-roll over music, and cutting out redundancy. Thanks so much for the excellent video and nice editing!

Not knowing how to level up is a great point. Not only should we naturally be leveling up video by video but there's got to be at some point where you consciously level up; taking on a project that seems way out of your league.

For me, that was making a few 45-80 minute videos. If I can keep people entertained for that long, sky's the limit.

Now when I go back to making regular length 20-30 minute videos, it's a piece of cake and not such a daunting task anymore

For editing to music, edit to the snare/clap. The kick becomes muddy and inaudible when there is talking over the track or when the mix is lowered. Because of this, the snare/clap becomes the most important percussion element and can add a more recognizable rhythm for your viewer to engage with. Thats my friendly tip :)

A really, really excellent video. I do many things naturally but thanks to you I've discovered a couple more! Thanks!

I can’t even begin to explain how valuable this was. It’s hard to find editing videos that go into the art of it. A lot of people just go into the logistics of how to do it. Thank you so much.

What did I just watch?
Some people actually pay a lot of money to learn all that in an editing class. But you just smashed it into my face so perfectly in this great video.
I'm now very motivated to make my boring German class videos as exiting as your videos.
Let's see if I can do that.

Although I do gaming content, I've realized how much more I can improve my own content following these rules

Bookmarks for my own convenience:
4:30 - J-Cuts
5:12 - Mirror-flipping video - appearance of multicamera setup.
5:43 - An example of how music completely changes the impact of a video.

this is amazing. OKAY DUDE i’ve barely forced myself to pause the video before there’s another ‘you gotta watch this next’ ending you throw at me and i do go and watch it again and FORGET TO COMMENT. but i need to comment. because seriously the amount of value and information you’ve given that make things clearer and less intimidating for new youtubers in such a short span of time?? and it seems like so much hard work, and knowledge, and experience??

it’s one of those youtube channels where i can’t help but be in a bit of disbelief someone shares such gems so accessibly and for free. thank you lots huge respect

"This video deserves a million views" gets thrown around a lot, but this video definitely deserves it. The most interesting editing video I've seen in a while that actually makes me WANT to edit instead of avoiding it.

This is phenomenal. I love your tips and enjoyed watching the cut version side by side. Thanks for teaching us. 🙏

Ah Ed, this is so good! It's wild how much better that 30 second section was than the original. I also loved how you incorporated the tips into your own edit of your tutorial after you drew attention to the technique (like flipping your footage to make it look like a different angle). Thanks as always for the insights.

Best ending ever! I've been making film and videos since 2000 and it's fascinating how different one needs to approach the medium when your audience isn't locked down in front of a 40' screen in a dark theatre. One can get away with a lot more spaciousness. But obviously it really all depends on what your desired outcome is AND what the viewer's desired outcome is. Great break down.

I've been a professional editor for ten years, literally we've won multiple awards for our projects and more than anything the way you presented this content taught me a ton of stuff, instant subscribe. Consider me impressed as all hell!

I keep repeating this, but I love how you genuinely practice everything you preach! Also, the fact that your focus is on teaching us how to make BETTER videos is such a refreshing change compared to similar channels who get bogged down with tags, keywords etc! Everything in this video was new information to me, except your point at the very end!

This is fantastic! Instead of just telling what to do...seeing you do it and how it actually improves the video...is SO helpful!

I've been editing videos for nearly a decade and after watching your channel I feel like a total noob. Just goes to show that there is ALWAYS so much to learn! You've earned a new sub.

this is so good!! intended to watch this, then drop off for bed—but oh welp I guess your retention techniques worked on me 😂

edit: it’s been a couple of minutes and I’m still deciding whether to click on the end card or sleep haha
