Why Can My Person With Dementia Get it RIGHT Sometimes? (And then I look like a fool).

In this video, I discuss moments of clarity and understanding in the brain of your person with dementia. It’s not an “act”. It is a connection. And then a lost connection. It is their broken brain.

My 93 year old mother has stage 4-5 Alzheimers. She has no idea what day, year or season it is. Mother relies on newspapers to tell her the day of the week, but knows nothing about current events. When her grandchildren see her, mother can hold a reasonable, though repetitive conversation and appear to be tuned in. She struggles to remember where her groceries go and has no idea that a carer comes daily to help with basic household tasks. When asked if they have been, mother says" no, I must have been out". Mother has not left her bungalow for months. She is now saying that she bakes every Sunday for the family and they have all been round for a meal. No one has been for a meal with mother for years...

I LOVE that explanation, Vickie! Thank you! My mom does that often and it is frustrating as all get out! But I try to wait for the next "sane" moments. Also, she has that deal going on where there is a total mis-firing on her language. She THINKS something and it come out "gibberish." She totally believes she spoke what she thought, but she didn't and then gets frustrated when questioned about it.

Since going to our neurologist I’ve decided to write things done and give to him prior to the appointment as we don’t get much time with the dr. I write what’s going on on the daily and from my perspective. And hand to his receptionist when I check in, so I don’t embarrass my spouse. I hope it helps our dr understand our life struggles, thanks for your channel, in Texas but all my family is from Alabama

My mother one minute is talking to my young daughter as if she is me when I was that small then the next minute she's completely lucid talking to a friend on the phone.

My mother sleeps all day idk what stage she’s in and she don’t want to eat no more drink water I’m so sad then she don’t remember me most of the time she’s getting worst and she don’t hold the spoon or the water right. She gets aggressive beats me up when she think I’m her old home health aid. I’m her caregiver it’s so hard I feel so drained even with my son and daughter helping isn’t enough

Can you help me understand why my Mom's dementia now is that she cannot remember hours or minutes ago. We've seen this off & on over the years, but what has changed are the big things. For example, she spent Thanksgiving with me all day, but by that night, forgot she was at my house. By the morning, she said she spent it alone when a neighbor asked about her holiday. When the grandchildren visit (they are adult grandchildren), she forgets they were with her an hour or 2 later. Seems so drastic to have her entire days filled with amnesia. She's 84, was diagnosed with dementia 4 yrs ago, tests show moderate Alzheimers. Thank you
