Fernando’s season was a punch in the nose to all of the ageists who have been calling on him to retire, simply because of his age, not because of his ability. Fernando’s driving ability has not fallen off one bit. He is still driving as if he were in his mid 20s and the fire and competitiveness and brilliant and racecraft are all still there. Better than ever.

In Aston Martin’s Monza Paddock Club suite this summer, I asked him how he could still be doing this in his 40s and competing with 20-year-olds and beating them. He told me the secret was that he knows these tracks so well and it just doesn’t take the same amount of mental processing and energy that it does for the younger drivers because he’s just so versed in these tracks and knows everything about them. Whatever his secret is, his performance is remarkable for a driver who is 42. You see so many drivers who buy their mid to late 30s are mentally checked out. This guy is an animal in terms of his competitiveness and focus and fire. Amazing.

As a Alonso fan I fully enjoyed this season, a few bad races but it were the team's fault, he was always giving 100% in the race. He is 42 and still one of the best driver. I hope he fights for the championship next year 🙌💚 go Alonso 💚
