During the production of Laravel Origins, we spoke to @Laracastsofficial creator Jeffrey Way to hear the story behind the creation of Laracasts as well as to discuss the impact Laracasts has had on @LaravelPHP's popularity.

"Laracasts was built to kind of scratch my own itch."

Jeffrey Way has been coming up with innovative ways to teach developers about confusing concepts for years. Formerly the editor of Nettuts+ and head of web development courses at Tuts+, his work on Laracasts has cemented his reputation as being one of the world's leading programming teachers.

But Jeffrey Way's impact has been felt far beyond the confines of programming education. Driven by the idea of creating an educational resource that's very targeted at a single type of user, i.e "full-stack developers that use Laravel or PHP and who need to reach for CSS every once in a while", he's also massively contributed to Laravel adoption.

So much so that Laravel creator Taylor Otwell states in the Laravel Origins documentary that "Laracasts is the one of the most premier tutorial sites on the internet for building web applications and Jeffrey has been very instrumental in recent years in onboarding so many people into the ecosystem."

In this video, Jeffrey Way explains why he created Laracasts, discusses the impact Laracasts has had on Laravel and elaborates on the importance he sees in creating something that serves a specific type of user rather than the wider programming community.

I know this is 2 years old at this point but Laracasts gave me a career. I tried using the Yii framework back around 2010 and was convinced I was an idiot. The jury is still out on that but the good news is that Jeffrey and his soothing voice convinced me that I can be an idiot and still be a programmer.

I use Symfony instead of Laravel, but I still have a lifetime subscription to LaraCasts. It's incredibly useful for PHP in general & some related tooling.

One of the best teachers there is. Jeff helped getting me around problems I couldn't solve when I started.
Sometimes I wish there was something like that for WordPress. I like WordPress and Laravel. But WordPress is so crazy with its background. Laracasts has me covered so much better.
