Lisa Gets CHUNKY! Short Review: 'Lisa's Belly' The Simpsons Season 33 Episode 5

A review of "Lisa's Belly." After Homer gets his kids sick at the water park, Dr. Hibbert prescribes steroids for Bart and Lisa, which leads to the side effect of weight gain. Lisa's weight gain impacts her negatively, especially when Marge calls her "chunky." Bart is not as affected, but when the school bullies learn that he takes steroids, they invite him into their basement gym.

After Lisa freaks out at the mall because she is upset that Marge took her shopping for clothes, most of which do not fit her, Homer goes to console Lisa, but he fails. So, he gets Patty and Selma to try and help Lisa.

Probably the best Simpsons episode of the year so far.

Always liked the Marge and Lisa episodes, they're rare but "I think they're quite neat!". Patty and Selma showing up are always a good tim too

I was on steroids after a kidney transplant (part of the process) and was severely bullied for it; though it was for a life saving process, having it when you’re about to start high school is the worse timing! Sadly kids are cruel and people in general just don’t think before they speak

Watched a few new Simpsons episodes see if they're any good.
Quite liked this episode, has a nice take on Lisa and Marge's relationship, and great to see Homer is concerned about Lisa and brings in Patty and Selma.

I didn't know the Age of Aquarius song, but loved the parody, great message about how while people try to insult Patty and Selma they don't let it affect them.

Also bit more of Marge's childhood and how she unconsciously has been affected by her mothers comments, gives me a bit of Fear of Flying vibes. Man Marge didn't have a cheery childhood.

It's a shame though that The Simpsons being The Simpsons that Lisa is back to her usual weight, kind of undermines the message of Lisa being okay with her weight gain.

Well, Bart had already gained weight from overeating in The Heartbroke Kid. They weren't gonna do that again.

Marge Simpson maybe a loving and caring mother but she is clueless and naive as she called Lisa chunky without realising that she had hurt her daughter's feeling.

this is the best episode I have ever seen of the simpsons. of course it was funny, all the episodes of them are. but it was the mature message of this episode every one should see. I am very impressed!

Riot Rivers, aka Quiet Rivers is a reference to Action Park in Vernon, New Jersey.

I bet Marge would been very angry with Homer once Bart and Lisa have finally decided to tell their mother the truth that Homer has took them to the abandon Devil Deluge which how they got their illness from in the first place.

I love the song this is the dawning of the age of who gives a crap… Cannot find it in a clip anywhere… It was great on many levels.

I just so happened to watch a video (or 2) on Action Park in the last few months, as I was on 1 of my bumbling YouTube trails, so I appreciated the parody.

What I appreciate even more's how The Simpsons seems to be finally deciding to be getting much less focussed on having loads of gags & unrealistic/ungrounded plots & jokes, but rather focussing more on characters & having stories with heart, steering us away from the ungroundedness/poor character building of the past circa. 25 years (maybe I've overlooked some seasons).
& this's coming from a guy who loves modern Family Guy.

Yes, the episodes may not generally be of an outstanding quality, but I'm really, really not asking for that. I want characters to be true to themselves, for stories to be believable & for the shit jokes to be mostly filtered out.

I hope we get more of this.

The Waterpark scene was funny when they got on that old water ride.

I liked the Lisa and Marg relationship building, but most of the episode was a fever dream. Bart's gym arc went nowhere and the hypnotist at the end confused the hell out of me. Did she have breast cancer or wanted to he an Amazon? Zero context.

I randonly ran into this episode today, we as adults sometimes don't realize how our kids might take a simple comment, even when we do it without harm, I reltae to this episode because I have a 15 year old daugher whose relationship with me is pretty bad and broken, recently I came to know that she has big resentments towards me because she claims that when she was 9 years old, I touched her belly and told her she needed to loose weight, we had and almost normal relationship from 9 to 14 then this surfaced...and I am pretty sad about it.
