I can tell you one thing, he weren't no rabbit, or a duck, or a dog, or a little wooden boy, or a sheep, or a woodpecker.

I don't think even the filmmakers knew who he was. That's how it should be. There was an early concept that was cut from the movie that implied Doom was the hunter who killed Bambi's mom.

I think he was both Baron Von Rotten and Pistol Packin' Possum. It's mentioned that Von Rotten was 'the Toon of 1000 faces, ' using paint to change his appearance. However, my theory is that he grew irritated at being typecast as a villain and tried creating another identity in an attempt to branch out (hence Pistol Packin' Possum). When the accident he was in occurred, it ultimately drove him to madness and made him the future Judge Doom.

Personally, I prefer Judge Doom's true identity to remain a mystery. It works better and makes Doom scarier.

i saw an idea brought up once that the Pistol Packing Possum was one of the roles Baron Von Rotten had played in the past. He was known as the Toon of a Thousand Faces after all, maybe this was one of his more famous roles.

Doom uses a lot of mechanical devices in his battle at the end of the movie. Turning his eyes to knives, his hands to saw and springs in his feet. No other toon in the movie did anything like this. That always made me think he was a twisted form of Inspector Gadget or something similarl.

I always pictured him as a golden age rubberhose cartoon, much like the early Fleischer cartoons. They could do similar things to their limbs, and had expressions like his. I even take his gold color as a pun, or an artistic liberty since all of those toons were filmed in black and white.

Pistol packing possum is such a great name

A gold shape shifting toon with red eyes and a high squeaky voice... my guess would be he was a failed toon design that was left abandoned and sought revenge.

Tell me you are not a toon without telling me you are not a toon?
- Doom kept avoiding slapstick humor
- Doom covered one eye when he slipped meaning one of his eyes popped out. Also no toon can resist rolling on clutter
- Doom even flung a record at the weasels only for it to get lodged in their mouth
- He avoids laughing because some toons can not laugh without doing it to death (which is another way to kill a toon or until their soul returns back to its body, it also shows that toons can grab hold of their soul if it were to be funny)
- Shave and a Haircut was affecting all Toons in the bar except Doom since he's the provoker to the gag but, he was also putting himself in harms way which was why he kept a distance from a few places in the bar to avoid the Two Bits to activate on himself (example two pianos landing on him).
- He walked into a Hand Buzzard Gag and nearly shook like a toon, but the gloves he wore were to prevent him from tooning out absorbing the shock. The gloves were also used to avoid getting dip on himself even though he already described it that it was harmless to human beings by stating what was in it)
- Judge Doom Backed away from the Dip. Every chemical in the vat is harmless to humans even shoes (not toon shoes though), so why did Doom back off, and it was not to protect the bar goers either.
- Toon left golden paint on the rope at the scene of the crime.
- Doom used a cane to hide his silly walk (most toons have them even arch villains)
- The Weasels were affected by Marry Go Round Break it Down during the final showdown. One of them was even dancing and laughing.

Definitely Pistol Packin Possum. He seems like the type of mob boss who could easily get the weasels working for him. I don’t think those tools were really part of his body so the colour doesn’t matter, they’re just more weapons he was packin’

Some of the comments suggested he was some kind of evil robot, which made me wonder if Doom inspired Terminator 2? The metallic arms shape-shifting into various weapons, the melting, plus glowing red eyes (though that’s more of a T-1000 trait.)

Von Rotton looks like the original book version of the grinch of the grinch (???) stole Christmas.

the Possum one seems more legit because of the fact that Doom's real voice was high-pitched like a little rodent.

In the Original story it was the vindictive Genie that appeared out of Golden Teapot that killed Roger after being released and forced to grant wishes like making Jessica fall in love with him.
My head cannon is that what is if in this story Eddie's brother was the one who found the lamp after Roger made his wish to be famous and find Jessica. Freshly discarded he began hating the life of a servant with phenomenal power in a gold tin kettle he also hated the world and his creator, Marvin Acme. And set plans in motion to remove them all. Eddie's brother tried to reason with him after hearing his plan but Doom got the drop on him, literally. Marvin a long time ago probably saw this day after recognizing his creation is the Doom disguise in the real world and swiftly made and hid the will. ACME is known for Props and the lamp is just a prop until the Genie comes out.
It would explain why Doom has it out for Roger more than Eddie. Also his shape-shifting and gold/yellow color. Also the high squeeking voice is kind similar to a Teapot whistle. You can hear it when he screams at eddie for the first time as a toon. Which gives you an image of: "what if a shape-shifting Genie couldn't leave the lamp but could bend the shape of it from the inside."
So yeah, Judge Doom is a deranged discarded Lamp/tea kettle with a Genie floating inside a costume. Trapped inside is a being so casually full of hate he had no problem melting a cartoon sqeeking shoe he probably knew a long time ago to keep his secret hidden.

I say he was a genie. That would let him shapeshift so he could be 'the Toon of 1000 faces', (including both Baron Von Rotten and Pistol Packin' Possum, and even a gold robot, ) let him pull weapons & stuff outta nowhere, and would even help explain why the weapons were golden. Plus the original story had a genie in it that played an important role.

I've also always wondered who Doom really was. However, both the comic and the theory, neither of them fit the bill.
My guess, it's most likely "Doom" is a toon that was drawn from the mind of a psyche ward inmate and brought to life.
Appearance, well it could be a shapeshifting mix of insane thoughts of comedy & horror all plastered together,
not like Frankenstein-ish, but more like scribbles & fames of cartoon drawings all stacked into one image.

But the fact his real identity remains an enigma, that's what makes it so fascinating.

I liked to imagine that Doom was Drew Blanc, Christopher Lloyd's character from Toonstruck, after having been mutated into a Toon. Therefore he's not trying to exterminate his own kind; he's making a last-ditch attempt to keep history from being forever altered by an unexpected merging of the worlds! And he's able to do this back in the 1940s because Christopher Lloyd also invented a time machine--

I had hoped that they'd one day make a prequel (movie or tv series) titled Valiant & Valiant named after their private eye business, and take advantage what toons they can have access to from old Disney cartoons to public domain. The climax of it all being the final chase against the Red Eyed Toon. Of course they don't catch that squeaky voiced toon, but they would at least catch his associates.

Alright, while i can go the way of "hes scarier being faceless", Id say its Pistol Packin Possum. The main counter point that the gold weapons arnt 'part of him' can easily be explained by the fact that 1. Hes in a disguise, its a common cartoon trope for a disguised toon to be ill fitting of the costume they are in, many mask reveals with their long snout springing out. 2. Hes in the ACME warehouse, he could have used any number of cartoon gizmos or gadgets to form any kind of weapon within his costume.

Some additional evidence is that not only would Weasles be a very fitting goon for a possum, they all share very similar design ques to the pistol packin possum character. Not to mention Doom acts like a cartoon straight man boss like character. Whos to say the weasels werent literally part of his old show and needed a job. On top of his scream being very high pitched and rodenty.

Besides, if they needed a cartoon character with a pistol in a poster, there were many many different ones to choose that would work, which makes me ask why they went out of their way to make a unique character for one 'gag'.
