I got the joke immediately … it used to be a common joke in the TDPRI… Telecaster Discussion Page… among the older guys, any time someone bought a new PRS and posted pics of it. “You must have got in to dental school.”

For those who didntget the joke(like me) from a surface level search it seems that due to the high quality and price of PRS guitars and the fact that dentists earn a lot and work with high price and quality tools the guitars made by PRS are called dentist guitars

Honestly being a dentist seems like a great profession. You get to have a pretty normal lifestyle while still making a lot of money.

A dentist called the music store I was working at and asked about our expensive Gibson Flying V. I picked up that he was a dentist during his life story. He wanted to confirm the guitar could ship to the Midwest from California in two days for his block party gig. He didn’t want to pay the extra shipping. He also wanted 15% off.

Some dentists have clinic hours of 2:00 - 4:00 which means two patients a day, most of their time is spent biking, kayaking, practicing guitar

Just to add some fun, the first dental school in the world was the UMD Dental School in Baltimore. So you could go to school AND visit the PRS factory every weekend!
