Do you know the difference between a federal resume and a standard private sector resume? There are many differences in how you would write and structure a federal resume. The first difference is the length of the resume and by comparison the federal resume is a lot longer. In this video, I discuss the main differences between a federal resume and a regular private sector resume. A federal resume writer recommended something that I have found helpful. First, cut the requirements, duties, and other key text from the Announcement and paste it into a word cloud generator. This will tell you what the agency considers to be the most important elements of the job. Then, put your resume text into the world cloud generator. Compare the two word clouds. Your resume word cloud should emphasize the same elements (or close enough) as the Announcement word cloud. If "Excel" is a main element in the Announcement word cloud, then it should also be a main element in your resume word cloud. If not, shape your resume until "Excel" pops out. For example, you might explicitly call out your "Excel" skills as you used them in *each* of the jobs you have listed in your resume. This will make "Excel" stand out in the resume word cloud. Yupe!! I have a 10-11 page County and Federal Jobs resume and only a 3-4 page resume for private sector jobs! I got hired off of a 10-page resume for my current Federal County job. lol!

I only use the “build resume” section, and would recommend others do the same. I know it can be a soar to look at, but at least HR has all the info they need, and you’re not being rejected off of something tedious as not putting the amount of hours you worked at a job.

i heard from a dood that the long form is the "old way" of doing things. now it's all about the STAR method. who is right? Private sector says u shud never do more than one page. i've gotten 3 job offers but it was from someone just straight offering me the job. not really sure how to apply
