I honestly really like small world, it's something that rewards deck knowledge and creative play and deckbuilding when considering it, while not being playable in every deck, because it's a -1 on its own.

Small World is like, the most fairly broken card in the entire game, able to search every single monster in the game at any time, and yet somehow is considered as balanced because it requires so much investment for some decks in exchange for its immense power. I love it

what I'm getting from this is: tributing the monster for an effect would be different than revealing since its mandatory to specify the exact stat lines of the tributed monster as part of the effect, while revealing them via small world is an optional route that has been specified not to work via precident

In my opinion, Gizmek Uka doesn't work, because it compares the numerical value of both ATK DEF to check if its EQUAL.
Nightmell searches a monster with the SAME ATK/DEF, so it checks only if its undefined.

Small World also searches the same ATK/DEF so it should be wo working with undefined values.

my thought on the matter is that nightmelt works because it says "the same original Type, Attribute, Level, ATK and DEF from your Deck", presumably meaning original type, original attribute, original level etc, since being only original type and not the others would make no sense. and since it states original atk/def, it treats them as 0 instead of ? and that is why it works

The way I would handle that is, unlike Small World, the monster variant needs to have a monster on the field. Therefore, at the time you tribute the monster, the ??? Attack/Defense isn't undefined, it's been declared by effect. I would use it's declared atk/def.
Which could have incredibly funny interactions with something like the Winged Dragon of Ra, imagine paying LP to get a specific statline and tributing it for that effect

Wouldnt this make the card weaker? I think most ??? Cards have that in both, meaning it would restrict you from linking most of them together cause they would have 2 similarities

this entire ruling can be explained with the undefined binomials: like how x-x=0 no matter what however, x-y will always return a value that isn't 0 (x can be a stand-in for atk and y can be a stand-in for def or vice-versa)

Hand traps, Kaijus and Gizmeks are all fantastic options for bridges when using this card. ?/?s getting treated as an interactable stat line can lead to some REALLY interesting sets of bridges and targets.

As a player that has a vision problem and sometimes takes a bit of time to read cards or confirm a few things, ALWAYS TALK to the judges beforehand to confirm things. Look it's not the same thing but it also helps them be informed of possible things that might come up and allows for a bit less stressful tournment for them.

I bring this up because as someone who during some of the early parts of the game's history did have their judge certification it's worth reminding people that it's always worth asking questions before the start of an event that will help judges be able to understand as well as help you as the player better understand what might help you. Since because of a vision problem having judges be aware of this allows for them knowing I might need an accommodation it's useful but when you ask about rules interactions it's a way for the judges to help accommodate you for helping provide information on how rules interactions might work before the event starts.

I'm glad to see coder always remind players about keeping thoses lines of communication open before an event as this was not always the case and it's worth remembering judges try their best to help players where they can with their information. Yes they might get sone things wrong but taking the time to talk to them when possible before an event is always important if you're unsure in a ruling or possible interaction which you might be using in your deck a decent amount of time during a higher level event.

I believe that Small World wouldn't work by the new ruling, anyway. At least, not for MOST monsters with ? stats if you're trying to pivot from one to another, specifically because most of the time they have ?/? statlines. Because if you try to bridge from, for instance Eater of Millions to Helios, the Primordial Sun to Gren Maju, they would compare the ? ATK and ? DEF meaning they have two things in common and so you can't use it as your bridge. But based on those rulings, I believe you could make a bridge of for instance Eater of Millions into The Calculator (with ?/0 stats) into Gren Maju since they have exactly only ? ATK in common.
I believe there are exactly EIGHT monsters with ?/? statlines where their ATK is not set by their effect to be equal to their DEF. They are: Gradius' Option (matches the statline of Gradius), Scanner (matches the statline of a banished monster), and... Six Zoodiacs.
