Believe me, Man Will Never Adapt To Living In Space

Have you ever considered this: for the engineer tasked with designing a space mission, you are a problem. You are the most troublesome device they have ever or will ever deal with. With your unstable metabolism, weak memory, and a frame with millions of different configurations, you are unpredictable. It takes weeks to repair you. The engineer must worry about the water, oxygen, and food you'll need in space and the extra fuel required to launch you into orbit.

Solar cells or propulsion nozzles are stable, undemanding things. They don't defecate, panic, or fall in love with the mission commander. They don't have egos. Their structural elements don't need to give out in zero gravity and work just fine even when deprived of sleep. They don't need to breathe or have fun, nor do they need to take their kids for a walk in the woods.

Yet some still stubbornly believe that humanity's future lies in space, with some gigantic orbital structure or on the Moon or Mars, forever enclosed underground or in glass bubbles. Does it seem possible that all this could be desirable for a human being? We think not, and we will try to argue our conviction in this video, as usual, produced for you by the Insane Curiosity Channel. But don't forget to have your say.

The worst day in Antartica is more survivable than the best day on Mars!

Im almost 100% certain that the Aleins that are out there are just as stuck to their region in space as we are.

I used to think that I would thrive and have no problem living in an artificial environment on Mars. Until we had huge forest fires very close proximity to the city I live in. The sky was a bright mustard yellow with this light mist of smoke lingering in the air for days with no end in sight. This shattered my dream of living on another planet. Within a week I was getting kind of claustrophobic. All i could think of was when was I ever going to breath in fresh air, see Blue skies or grey rainy skies again. Psychology I would freak out being on a Mars colony. I know I would feel trapped.

I think it's a waste. It's not a question of technology. If we had an infinite amount of money, I think all of the things you mentioned could be solved, except for the human issues (physical and mental).

For the two trillion dollars it's gonna cost we could send a dump truck and skip loader to Mars and bring back a chunk of the planet, risk free. Plus we could send out another dozen rovers to other targets in the solar system for that money. NASA has to use Space-X and Russian rockets to resupply the ISS.

In fact, I think we should stop sending rovers to Mars. Every rover is a diminishing return. 90% of the information we get from the next rover is gonna be what we learned from the last four. How about rover to Titan or Io? That's fresh territory!

Forget about terraforming. We can't even "terraform" the Earth to lower the CO2 from the atmosphere.

In many parts I share your opinion, space is brutal, and humans are fragile.

The only thing that allows humans to believe that travel to other planets is possible and is actually desirable is their extensive study and reading of comic books.

By the time we have mastered interplanetary space flight, autonomous robots will make far more cost-effective pilots.

We have one planet that we can reasonably live on and we need to take better care of it. Traveling to some other planet and live there isn't an option.

We already are. Living on a planet in space. No other way to do it really.

Thank you for this rational and sober assessment of the colossal problems posed by the question of human expansion into space or other planets in the solar system. Overdue pushback against these Pollyannas that think we're just a few years away from Martian conquest.

Yep.. humans live in 5km deep oxygen aquarium on their perfect planet. We ain't going anywhere far

This is by far the best, most realistic view of space collinisation I've seen in a long time. Our bodies are adapted to live on earth, not in space or other planets. To do this we first need to adapt our bodies to the new environment, not the environment to suite us....👍👏😅

People couldnt even go to Mars and back without requiring dialasis with our current designs.

My thoughts exactly! Spend a few days in my minus 20°C weather, cooped up inside and unmanageable outside. You will quickly get cabin fever.

Let's see if the human race can last the next 5 to ten years first?

I’ve lived in tiny spaces on boats and THAT is beyond most peoples comfort zone. I can’t imagine anyone not losing their fucking mind in space.

"Never" is too long to make any such claim
