Robert Pickton | Confessions of a Serial Killer | S1E09

Pickton was a pig farer who lived on a sprawling squalid estate. The ramshackle collection of barns and slaughter houses were the perfect cover for a madman who killed 49 women before feeding them to his hogs.
Refusing to confess to police he was caught out when an undercover police officer was placed with him as a cellmate. Unable to hide his delight at killing he boasted about the murders, his means of corpse disposal and his aggrievance that he fell short of hitting is target of 50 murders because in his own vile words ‘he got sloppy’.

Picton died today. In a Quebec prison another inmate used a makeshift broom handle and stabbed him in the head. He didn't die immediately, he was put into an induced coma and finally passed weeks later.
The agony he put those poor women through and their families. Unthinkable. 💔

I worked on this case and Pickton fed the women to his pigs and he sold the meat to friends and the public. The police had to put out a warning to the public that if they had bought any meat from Pickton they were not to eat it under any circumstances! Absolutely horrific case.

I was in Canada when this case broke, it was widely accepted that his pigs consumed human remains. Turned me into a vegan for 8 months

The recent news of his brutal demise while serving his sentence brought me to this video, which is probably the best coverage of his horrific path to his eventual end. People in the US think of Canadians as our kinder, gentler neighbors to the north. Then we hear stories like this.

In certain cultures, the role of livestock slaughterer, and to a lesser extent the town butcher, was the lowest position in the land, and they were often ostracized even as their townsfolk knew the necessity of their work. We idealize the process of bringing meat to the table, especially in this age of fetishizing food and farm-to-table movements, but we too easily forget a life is taken. We cannot be naive and believe it does nothing to a man involved in the process. Some manner of dignity and consideration of life must be preserved in the process.

I was in my early teens, living in Port Coquitlam…. When it would get dark, my friends and I would say, “better get home quick before Picton gets you.” It was a rumour years before he got caught.

This happened where I live. I remember seeing pictures of some of the victims with warnings telling other women to be careful, that women were disappearing. This was long before the police started to investigate. To this day, I think of this case any time I drive down East Hastings in the area he picked up his victims. Very sad.

This was huge news around the Metro Vancouver area! He was from Port Coquitlam, about an hour away from actual Vancouver.

the police ignored those rumours, not because they were made by "raw crude people", but because the victims being sex workers and indigenous women were never a priority for them

God, those poor girls, you’d have to be horribly desperate to get in a car with pickton🤮

The police failed us horribly again here! They have too many resources on traffic detail, fining and punishing tax-payers, and too few resources on such real crimes as like this video!

Why no mention of the 'charity' himself and his brother set up?
What was it?? 'The good times charity for events dances and functions" services provided at a price!
Links with people in high places, those links appear to have been omitted from this documentary 🤔🤔

I'm Canadian, was so horrific, made my skin crawl, blessings to all the families, my deepest condolences. RIP gently. So very sad, and deeply appalling. 🍁😪🇨🇦

He was actually a pig farmer in Port Coquitlam, not was real fear that his pork went out into the larger grocery store chains, but it actually didn't, even tho it was reported that way. Although he did sell the meat privately, to neighbours etc. So vile and depraved.

I live in the same town in BC that this happened in my one teacher a few years ago had told me that someone she knew was a victim to him it just hurts to know that so many people that died from this in my home town some people still talk about it.

Pickton is where he belongs now and should stay there

He actually had police to his pork cook-outs, apparently, they also ate his meals, unbeknownst to anyone.

No matter what way anyone says the police failed horribly.

A guy who was in a cell for spousal abuse, once told me he knew the guy he was locked up with was actually an undercover cop. I wondered at the time how he would have known that? Perhaps he watched these programs.
