French drains are AWESOME. I did 100ft one by hand at my moms. Her sump pump runs about 10% of the time compared to running 75% of time before drain was installed.

Good job! I've just bought a cheap old house with drainage issues. After watching videos on curtain drains and French drains, I'm going to get a guy to trench my property and I'll fix the problem. After location of sewer and water lines, I'll have the digger trench a metre deep, then I'll line it with plastic sheet and fill it with rocks, wrap them and backfill the earth.

If it has a slotted/perforated pipe thru the gravel makes it a trench drain. French drain is only rock and drains much slower.

I have a question sir is that draining into a shallow well ? This is how i made it at our honestead in a low area we drilled a well that everything drians to, but have never tested it, will that work ?

We have a "French drain" but we think it was put in by the previous owners of the house, and they had no idea what they were doing, because the drain doesn't actually go anywhere.
